Pray From the Position of Covenant Promises

Our prayers are joined with the prayers of a thousand generations of those who loved God and kept His commandments.

As an American citizen, I pray continually for my nation— for God to shed His light on us and turn our people back to Him.  I feel the weight of the prayers that have been prayed for hundreds of years— prayers prayed out of covenantal promises and commitments that we made with God (and He has made with us).

I heard the Spirit say to me, “You are not praying ‘lone prayers,’ but you are joining with the prayers of Deuteronomy 7:9. I am the faithful One who keeps covenant and releases mercy upon your nation. I have heard the continuous prayers of thousands and thousands who have remained faithful to Me. I will show forth My faithfulness to them.”

Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;” Deuteronomy‬ ‭7‬:‭9‬ ‭

As you pray today, whether it’s for America or Israel, or any other nation, know that you are adding your prayers to the prayers of “a thousand generations” and that the Lord has kept His covenant with those who have loved Him and kept His commandments. What you release in prayer has far more power and authority upon them than anything the world is releasing. Why? Because you are praying from the position of covenant. You are releasing prayers backed by a spiritually legal covenant that cannot be broken.

On the other hand, the enemy is a liar and cannot act within covenant because he is not faithful nor trustworthy— all that he does is illegal. Even his claim over the world and God’s creation is illegal and temporal. It will not last because the enemy cannot keep covenant.

Our prayers and petitions go back to the covenants God made with Abraham, Moses, and David. The words and covenants made with them echo through time and history to where we stand today. Our prayers are joined with the prayers of a thousand generations of those who loved God and kept His commandments.

Today we stand in the gap for our nations, and together, as His people, we bring forth our prayers that have the backing of legal covenants that remain in place today, such as the Davidic covenant where God promises a descendant of David to reign on the throne over the people of God. Jesus fulfilled this covenant and reigns today over the people of God and makes intercession for us. This is our authority and our confident hope (faith) that we do not pray in vain as the enemy would like many to believe.

The definition of spiritual covenant is to enter into an agreement that brings about a relationship of commitment between God and his people. A marital covenant between two believers is a covenant made with God at the center; this means that God pledges to help them hold the covenant together in every circumstance, whether good or bad. This is why we do not give up on our nations or our marriages in bad times or even amid betrayal. God has pledged to help us uphold our covenants and commitments no matter what. Our nations have walked away from God, but it is His covenant with His people that hold them together and give us hope.

Therefore we pray! We pray with the authority and confidence that comes from the covenants kept by God for a thousand generations. He remains faithful to them and continually extends mercy— compassion, and forgiveness when we deserve punishment.

Let us pray,

Lord Jesus, reign over our nation today. Thank you that You have kept Your covenants with Your people and have been faithful and merciful to us. We stand in the gap for all those who have turned away from You— who have chosen to break your holy commandments— and we ask for mercy. Rescue and save America, Israel and the nations of the world. Shed Your light upon us once again and revive us to live as a Christian nation that keeps Your commandments and our covenants with You. We join our prayers with the prayers of your faithful sons and daughters over a thousand generations before us and we cry out, ‘Have mercy and save us, oh God. Deliver us from our enemies for Your name sake.’ There is no God besides You and no one faithful but You. Turn our nation(s) and our people (our sons and daughters) back to You so that they may live in the blessings of Your covenant promises once again.” Amen
