How often do we think of Jesus in a clean white robe, with clean hands, and immaculate hair?
We forget that Jesus walked this earth.
Fully God, yet fully man.
Jesus had dirty hands.
Dirty feet.
Dirt under his nails.
He healed the untouchables.
He laid hands on open wounds.
He embraced the prostitute.
He went out seeking the unclean.
They came looking for Him.
The untouchables.
The broken.
The demonized.
Spiritual dirt.
Physical dirt.
The unclean.
Nothing stopped Him.
Jesus had his hair stuck to his face.
Sweat pouring down his back.
Not smelling great.
His hands calloused – His feet calloused.
His clothes dirty and worn.
He walked the desert.
He walked the streets.
He had no home.
He often had no bed.
Not physically clean.
Not pristine.
Jesus was in the trenches.
If we sit in church on Sunday morning wondering why we can’t feel God, maybe it’s because he’s calling us into the trenches to walk with Him.
Jesus never stayed in the temple long.
He was busy finding the lost.
Washing the unclean.
Healing the untouchables.
Let’s be like Jesus.
Praising Him one day a week is great.
Being like Him seven days is better.
That’s the highest praise.
Restoration can be messy.
Are we ready to get dirty?
Does the church embrace the unclean?
Have we gotten in the trenches?
Or, do we expect seekers to show up in their Sunday best?
Do we expect them to know what they do not yet know?
Do we expect them to live, how they have never lived?
You get baptized into Christ.
You get baptized into the kingdom.
But a kingdom mindset isn’t immediate.
A kingdom lifestyle is learned.
It’s sanctification.
It’s the RENEWING of the mind, and it’s ongoing.
I think we can do better.
Are our hearts clean?
