How important is life to us? What or who makes you thrive in life? The older I get the more I truly understand that we have been given one life on this earth and it’s all for the glory of the One who gave us life. As a Christ-follower, Jesus Christ is our life.
Many strive for a better life, a more prosperous life, an easier life, a less stressful life, a fruitful life, and a peaceful life. What are we looking for? It’s not easy to define, is it?
Jesus said it this way, “I am the resurrection, and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in Me will never die.” John 11: 25-26
Jesus then asks His listener, “Do you believe this?” That listener happens to be Martha, the sister of Mary. They had just buried their brother Lazarus and Jesus came to comfort the sisters.
Jesus tells Martha, “Your brother will rise again.” As Jesus is comforting his friends, He goes over to see Lazarus, and Jesus weeps.
Do you see the compassion and comfort Jesus brings?
In our circumstances in life, Jesus comes alongside us when we grieve too. I often wonder how many tears He has collected from His children as He positions near to us when we are in a time of sorrow?
After talking with Martha and Mary, He doesn’t stop there. “Jesus, once more deeply moved, came to the tomb.” John 11: 38 We know the end of the story.
Jesus the Resurrection Life gives life to Lazarus.
Knowing Jesus gives us that “better life” we all desire. Here’s what He declared: “I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10: 10
Is He offering us a better life, full of abundance? How can He assure us of this?
Jesus is life! He is offering us Himself–His love, His care, His guidance, His life.
He came to give us eternal life that we can only obtain through Him. There is no other way. He truly is the resurrection and the life.
