As we look at Proverbs 28, we see a chapter that focuses on leadership, justice, and personal integrity. There are great instructions on leadership in the Bible in general, but let’s begin with the second verse. Here’s what it says:
“When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers, but a man of understanding and knowledge maintains order.” Proverbs 28: 2
A wise ruler will be successful as they walk in understanding and knowledge.
“Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it fully.” Proverbs 28: 5
When a good leader walks in understanding they know what is right, just and fair.
When we walk in reverence for God we receive blessing. Here’s a promise for that: “Blessed is the man who always fears the Lord, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.”
Not only does walking in reverence bring blessing into our lives, but we are kept safe.
“He whose walk is blameless is kept safe, but he whose ways are perverse will suddenly fall.” Proverbs 28: 18
Faithfulness, my friends, leads to being blessed richly.
“A faithful man will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.” Proverbs 28: 20
Generosity is another path to blessing.
Here are two verses about this:
- “A stingy man is eager to get rich and is unaware that poverty awaits him.” Proverbs 28: 22
- “He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.” Proverbs 28: 27
We can’t do everything for everybody, but we can do something for someone.
As we close, embrace walking in God’s wisdom and He will keep us close, safe, and sound.
