Have you ever stood in front of a bubbling brook and felt so refreshed? The sound alone is relaxing, isn’t it?
Today, as we look at Proverbs 18, let’s focus on the fourth verse. Here’s what it says, “The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters, but the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.” Proverbs 18: 4
Do our words have a calming effect when we speak?
The answer would be yes if a fountain of wisdom is within.
If you have ever experienced a whiplash from someone’s words, you understand the effect that comes is not calming, instead, it’s troubling.
Oh, the power of words and their effect!
May we all think before we speak. Speaking foolishly can lead to this: “A fool’s lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating.” Proverbs 18: 6
Speaking carelessly can produce the feeling of defeat, not victory.
We are not defeated; we are victorious in Christ! Words of wisdom undergird and strengthen us.
May our words bring life, not death. There is power not only in words but in names. The One name that we can all run to as a strong tower is the name of Jesus! “The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” Proverbs 18: 10
If you need to be refreshed and feel safe, run to the One where refreshment and safety come from.
That place is running to the place of His presence. He is a strong tower for you. Let’s learn about strong towers.
A strong tower is an elevated tower. Could it be that it is so elevated, as to be high, or inaccessible for capture? One of the uses for towers in the Old Testament is that they were used as fortresses in times of war.
If you are in a battle right now, let the strength of the Lord be a strong tower, a fortress, for you to keep you protected and inaccessible from the enemy.
When we call on the name of Jesus, and run to Him, He becomes that high tower for us, that protection and shelter, a place that we are unable to be captured from. He is our refuge and our strength.
