How do we define joy? I’m talking about the joy that comes from God that is glorious. Peter said it this way, “You love Him passionately although you have not seen him, but through believing in Him you are saturated with an ecstatic joy, indescribably sublime and immersed in glory. For you are reaping a harvest of your faith—the full salvation promised you—your soul’s victory!” 1 Peter 1: 8-9
The goal of our faith is salvation.
Years ago the Lord gave me an acronym on joy:
Jesus
On
You
Yes, when the presence and joy of the Lord rests, it is tangible. The joy of the Lord is truly our strength.
KINGDOM KEY: Where we fix our focus is important in maintaining joy.
Jesus was the model we can learn from. It says, “For the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame. Hebrews 12: 2
We must set before us Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith.
Why?
It takes great faith to keep focused on Jesus in the midst of suffering and sorrow.
Stay strong and hold on to Jesus if you’re in pain, He will sustain and hold on to you.
When we remember the Christmas story when Mary was with child and went to visit her cousin Elizabeth she exclaimed that, “As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.” Luke 1:44
Then Mary said, “My soul is ecstatic, overflowing with praises to God. My spirit bursts with joy over my life-giving God.” Luke 1:46-47
Yes, our spirit should burst with joy when we think about our life-giving God. He came to bring life and in Him is life eternal.
May our spirits leap for joy as John the Baptist’s did, when he was in his mother’s womb. Even as an infant he responded to the joy of the Lord as His Savior,
May we overflow with joy this season as we focus on the Christ child, Jesus, who came to deliver His people, to deliver us from death.
His mercies and love are limitless.
His restoration is continual; and His love is eternal.
Thank you Lord for “There is joy for those who promote peace.” Proverbs 12:20
There is a promise, “Everlasting joy will crown the heads. Gladness with joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.” Isaiah 35: 10
Overtake us, Lord, with your joy; joy unspeakable full of glory,
Joy to the world the Lord has come; and will come again!
