Which house will we build upon, a house of wisdom or a house of foolishness? Both wisdom and folly have a house to which mankind is invited. We get to choose. God has given mankind a free will. The key is in our hand to open the right door.
Godly wisdom is the key component in our life.
Here’s how Proverbs 9 begins:
“Wisdom has built her house; she has built her seven pillars. She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines and set the table. She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come.” Proverbs 9: 1-3
What do the seven pillars mean?
Some of you may be wondering. In the practical sense, a house that has seven pillars is very large.
In a spiritual sense, wisdom’s house is large, well-appointed, and unshakable.
Could this be indicating the church, the house of God?
Many commentaries have alluded to this and teach that “The pillars represent both the beauty and the stability of the church. The pillars are symbolic of the prophets, and apostles, and ministers of holy things, which in Scripture are called pillars, as in Galatians 2: 9 and elsewhere.” (Poole)
Some have taught that the seven pillars of wisdom are:
- Counsel
- Knowledge
- Understanding
- Might or Strength
- Power or Authority
- Riches
- Honor
In summarizing, we could conclude by saying that if you desire to be wise, strive to manifest these seven characteristics in your daily life.
Living a life in the house of God and for the Kingdom of God is certainly wisdom that will empower you for an entire life.
Remember the parable of the wise and foolish builders?
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7: 24
A foundation built on wisdom and the principles of God will strengthen and secure the structure.
Learn to walk this way, and you will live and be strengthened.
Not only that, but wisdom will also teach us to grow and make us wiser and wiser. Here’s a scripture that backs that up:
“Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still: teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning.” Proverbs 9: 9
Walking in wisdom will give us a teachable heart.
“If you are wise, your wisdom will reward you; if you are a mocker, you alone will suffer.” Proverbs 9: 12
As we conclude, it’s just wise to be wise and not be foolish.
Wisdom’s final words summarize the heart of the message:
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. For through me your days will be many, and years will be added to your life.” Proverbs 9: 10-11
Let Wisdom Reward You As You Build His House.
