We are created in the image of God, both male and female. What is an image defined as? A representative of a person or thing. Who do we represent? We represent Jesus.
When people see us they should see Jesus.
Jesus came to earth to restore what Adam lost. He came to establish his earthly kings to their rightful place–in Him.
You and I, as Christ-followers, are to re-establish His kingdom here on the earth. Look at the supreme image of our Jesus, our Bridegroom King in this verse: “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or ruler or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him.” (Colossians 1: 15-16)
So when God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.” (Genesis 1: 26); He was speaking of the Trinity–The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
The image of God is to be carried out on the earth through His children, His image-bearers.
How do we achieve that? Through the power and love of the Holy Spirit.
How can we represent and reflect Him?
- Ask God to fill us with the knowledge of His will, which comes through spiritual wisdom and understanding.
- Live a life pleasing to God.
- Bear fruit in every good work.
- Grow in the knowledge of God.
- Give thanks continually.
Remember, we are qualified to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. Why? “He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son, He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” (Colossians 1: 13-14)
The kingdom in this context is not referring to a territory but to the authority, rule, or sovereign power of a king; yes, Jesus our King.
We no longer are under the dominion of evil (darkness) but under the benevolent rule of God’s Son.
KINGDOM PRINCIPLE: Image-bearers represent the King in word and deed.
