He Sees His Father Doing

David interceded for the people and asks God to hold back His hand of judgment.

Do we see the Father doing His work?  Who do we know that God is working though?  That is most likely, you!  All that we do is done by the Father, Heavenly Father, yet we don’t often see it.

Jesus even testified of that.  He said, “The Son can do nothing by Himself; He can do only what He sees the Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.”  (John 5: 19)

I have heard prophetic ministers testify that God will show them, in advance, whom they are to minister to in their meetings.  So when they get to the meeting they are looking for the people or person that the Father showed them.  They simply ask the Father to show them what He will be doing that night, and God simply answers.   Don’t you just love that?  Sometimes they know by the color of shirt they have on or something specific they see, beforehand, so God can personalize His love for them and to them.

Jesus testified that the very work God had given Him to finish reveals that the Father has sent Him.  So it is with us.  We are being sent.

Keep testifying about Jesus; you are obeying the Father, as you obey the Son in doing their work.   He blesses our work.

The Lord Promises to bless Jerusalem.  Zechariah hears God’s promise for Jerusalem, “I am very jealous for Zion, I am burning with jealousy for her.”  (Zechariah 8: 1)

He sees the people of Jerusalem, once again, together.  Children playing in the streets once more.  He hears, “I will bring them back to live in Jerusalem and I will be faithful and righteous to them as their God.”  (Zechariah 8: 8)

He sees what the Father is doing.  “In those days, ten men from all languages and nations will take firm hold of one Jew by the hem of his robe and say, “Let us go with you, because we have heard that God is with you.”  (Zechariah 9: 23)  (Shared from Zechariah 8, Modified)

Seeing what the Father is doing, keeps us unified.  David saw the hand of God send a plague on Israel, seventy-thousand men of Israel fell dead.  “And God sent an angel to destroy Jerusalem.  But as the angel was doing so, the Lord saw it and was grieved because of the calamity and said to the angel who was destroying the people.  Enough!  Withdraw your hand.”  (1 Chronicles 21:  14-15)

David then looked up and saw the angel of the Lord standing between heaven and earth, with a sword drawn in his hand extending over Jerusalem.  Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell face down.”  (1 Chronicles 21: 16)

Seeing what God is doing, will cause one to bow and hit the floor.

David was so convicted and knew that it was his fault, the one who called for the census of Israel.  I wondered why was God angry he took the census?

A favorite commentary said, “Only a man only had the right to count or number what belonged to him. Israel did not belong to David; Israel belonged to God. In Exodus 30: 12 God told Moses, “When you take a census of the Israelites to count them, each one must pay the LORD a ransom for his life at the time he is counted. Then no plague will come on them when you number them.” It was up to God to command a census, and if David counted he should only have done it at God’s command, receiving a ransom to “atone” for the counting.

Before David had seen the results of the plague, God spoke to Gad, David’s seer, and tells him to go to David, saying, I am giving you three options. Choose one of them for me to carry out against you.” (1 Chronicles 21: 9-10)  David gets to choose his punishment.

The three options were:

  • Three years of famine.
  • Three months of being swept away before your enemies.
  • Three days of the sword of the Lord–days of plague in the land.

Why did David offer the census anyway?  “Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.”  (1 Chronicle 21: 1)

  • It’s important to follow God’s commands, not anyone else’s.

Seeing what the Father is doing makes more sense now, doesn’t it?

David then asks for the hand of the Lord to be upon him and his family, but not to let any plague remain on the people of Israel.

David interceded for the people and asks God to hold back His hand of judgment.  God accepts his requests, and the angel instructs him to build an altar, and David obeys.  When he places the sacrifices on top, God answers with fire on the altar upon the burnt offering.

David then decrees, “The house of the Lord God is to be here, and also the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”  (1 Chronicles 22: 1)    David then dedicates the property as the very site for the temple.

  • Seeing what the Father is doing brings forth decrees and dedications.  (Shared from 1 Chronicles 20: 1-22: 1, Modified)
