How often are we fueled by our feelings?
Guilty.
I am an extremely passionate person.
When I love, I love deeply.
When I’m hurt, I hurt deeply.
When I am disappointed….I get angry.
Feelings aren’t bad.
Feelings can be beautiful.
Joy.
Joy is a feeling.
But so is depression.
I have noticed a common theme when someone chooses to walk away from the Lord.
The dots connect back to feelings.
They just don’t “feel it” anymore.
When they started following Jesus, everything felt good.
In fact, it felt GREAT.
I call this phase…
“Riding on a unicorn with Jesus”.
Everything is wonderful and glorious.
The sun is always shining.
The birds are always singing.
Every worship song is your favorite.
And you’re happy.
Really, really happy!
Until you’re not.
The euphoria fades.
It’s cloudy.
The bird flies into the window glass.
The spiritual attacks come.
People let you down.
You still have problems.
You still have consequences.
Depression sets in.
Turns out Jesus isn’t a genie in a bottle, and the unicorn rides off into the sunset without you.
Now what?
If you came for “the feelings” you won’t last.
If you came for Jesus, you will.
This is why it is CRITICAL that you are rooted and grounded in The Word.
Superficial Christianity built on hip worship songs, and vapid sermons won’t cut it.
You need The Truth.
The whole Truth.
The full council of God.
You need to KNOW JESUS.
You need to know Him so you can trust Him.
You need to know His character.
You need to know what He says about you, and this world.
You need to know what He says about Himself, and Holy Spirit, and God.
Because He is God.
You need to know, or you won’t be able to stand.
You need to know The Word of God beyond the Sunday sermon, beyond the daily Bible affirmation, beyond the K Love commercial.
You need to know Him.
That’s Christianity.
To know Him, and to be known by Him.
Jesus doesn’t promise us a rose garden, or a unicorn.
He promises that if we seek Him, truly seek Him with all of our heart, we will have the honor of knowing Him.
And JESUS is enough.
