Exploring Those Important Questions, Part Four

Weariness can keep us from diligently seeking Him and even awaiting answers for our own prayer needs.

Well, here we are as we finalize the, Explore More in 2024 series.  I feel like it’s been taking longer than anticipated, but we have arrived on our final post and the final question.

That final question is:

Are we pursuing the Lord for answered prayers even through weariness?

I think if we are honest, we can answer by saying, “Sometimes yes and sometimes no.”

Weariness takes us away from pursuing the things of God.

We have all had times when we experience physical tiredness and fatigue–weariness.  If you feel weary, take some time to rest, and listen to the signs coming from your physical body. If we choose to ignore those signs burnout may happen.  Don’t feel bad if you are weary, “Even youths grow tired and weary…”  Isaiah 40: 30

Go to the one who restores weariness.

“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40: 29

But He doesn’t stop there.  Here’s why:

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40: 31

What’s the key phrase that brings renewed strength?

Hope in the Lord!  Hope brings to us a new kind of strength, a renewed strength, that causes us to soar and run after what God has called us to.

Take note:  The enemy will do everything he can to discourage, distract, disillusion us, and deflect our efforts toward pursuing what our assignment is.

So how can we continue in our pursuit of answered prayer?

There were some final instructions that the believers in Thessalonica were given that we can learn from.  Part of those instructions given were about the importance of prayer.  Here they are:

  • Pray without ceasing.
  • Be unceasing and persistent in prayer.
  • Pray perseveringly.
  • Pray constantly.
  • Pray regularly.
  • Pray continually.
  • Never stop praying.
  • Pray at all times.

I think you get the message.  Each of these phrases is in different translations and exhorts us to not stop praying.  They are from the same scripture, 1 Thessalonians 5: 17.

Jesus even asked His disciples to stay and keep watch (pray) with Him before He was arrested.

If He wanted prayer, then, wouldn’t He still desire us to pray and be part of keeping watch still?

Here’s our answer:

“The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves’ instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak.  Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning.”  Mark 13: 34-36

The day and the hour are unknown for His return.

There are things that we are called to do before He comes.  One of the things He asks is for us to pray.

Weariness can keep us from diligently seeking Him and even awaiting answers for our own prayer needs.

Whatever you are asking the Lord for and have not yet received, and maybe weariness may be setting in, be encouraged by this next verse.

“So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.” 1 Thessalonians 5: 6

Don’t let the enemy exhaust you if your prayer is not answered yet.  Keep serving the Lord and focus on Him.

“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6: 9

There is a wedding song, Psalm 45, that was sung in praise of a king on his wedding day, who was from the dynasty of David. This song was used at more than one royal wedding.  The song is addressed to the king and to the royal bride.  Exhortations are spoken to the king and to the glory of His bride.

As the Bride of Christ, His church, the King is addressing us, His beloved Bride.

I encourage you to read the entire Psalm.  A few of the verses say this:

“You love justice and hate evil. Therefore God, your God, has anointed you, pouring out the oil of joy on you more than on anyone else.”  Psalm 45: 7

“The King is enthralled with your beauty; honor Him for He is your Lord…They are led in with joy and gladness; they enter the palace of the king.” Psalm 45: 11, 15

Be totally loyal to your adorning King.

Entering the King’s chambers, and spending time with the King, equips you to:

Therefore, “You will indeed go out in joy, and be led forth in peace.”  Isaiah 55: 12
