Is it Christmas in March? Nope! We are remembering the one who is forever with us, Jesus, Son of God, God in human form, also named Emmanuel.
Emmanuel or Immanuel, which one should we use? Either one, both mean, “God is with us.” The word Immanuel is the correct Hebrew translation, while the word Emmanuel is the correct English translation. Both translations are used in the Bible. Whether you use an “E” or an “I,” God is with us!
In the gospel of Matthew, we see this: “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1: 23
This verse comes from the famous prophetic words of the prophet Isaiah. The name Emmanuel (Immanuel) was meant to indicate that God could rescue King Ahaz from his enemies. God was willing to strengthen his faith through a sign. That’s why it says, “Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child…” Isaiah 7: 14
Jesus is the final fulfillment of this prophecy, for He is, God with us, in the fullest sense. He is with us in every aspect of life. He came to be God with us, every day and in every way.
God came down to earth to be in relationship with His children that He created. He doesn’t want us to know Him from afar but to become close, so close that we receive Him into our hearts.
Joseph was not fully convinced yet of the call of God on his life, nor of Mary’s his wife to be. God was so intent on revealing His plan and answering all of Joseph’s questions, that He sent, “An angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give Him the name Jesus because He will save His people from their sins.” Matthew 1: 20-21
This is a powerful testimony to the divine origin of Scripture and its accuracy even in small details.
In these fulfillments, the Old Testament and New Testament were just linked and connected.
This is why the Old Testament can never be thrown out or disregarded.
God is the divine connector. He links everything together. When something is linked, they are joined and connected together. He is connecting and linking His Body, the church, as one. He is divinely connecting us with specific people who are of like-mindedness.
All things are working together for good, for those who love God. Yes, even those things that don’t seem connected right now, God is bringing all things into fulfillment.
God is with us; and may I add, He is for us!
