Ooh, law, y’all! We don’t like to wait, do we? I mean, how many seconds after the light turns green are you honking for the driver ahead to get moving? How fast do you tap your foot when the food isn’t ready?
We are impatient people! I mean, right now, I want tomatoes from the garden, but they’re not producing yet. UGH! C’mon plants! Get with it!
Micah the prophet declared that he looks to the Lord for help and waits confidently for God to rescue him. What does waiting confidently mean?
I can give you an example. When I ask my husband to do something for me and he agrees, I can go on about my day or week and never think about that thing again, because I know that he will keep his word to me and that thing will be done. It may not be in the next moment, but it will happen.
We who are believers are in a covenant relationship with God — like the covenant relationship that is marriage.
God has made promises to His people — those He is in covenant with. There are over 3,000 promises from God to His people in the Bible. Over 3,000 times He has declared that that thing will be done. We can go on about our day and week knowing three very important things:
God has heard us.
God is good.
God will keep His promises.
Period.
So, just because what you are expecting hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean you jump up to accomplish that thing on your own. Taking matters into their own hands got Abraham and Sarah in tons of trouble! Don’t do it.
Also, remember that God is not a cosmic vending machine that spits out our requests as soon as we drop the prayer coin. He operates in His time, which is perfect for our situation, even when we think it isn’t.
Make the choice today to live in confident patience as you look to God for your help — regardless of the situation at hand.
