Beware the Invisible, Seething Danger

Contrary to popular belief, God is not progressive. Nor will He ever be.

Why does everyone seem so dangerously angry?

When we were in Israel in 2023, we ventured into northern Israel within viewing distance of the Syrian and Lebanese borders. Our guide showed us thin white lines on the mountain ridge across the valley. Those were the white canopies over thousands of Hezbollah rocket launchers aimed at Israel. At that time, he said there were approximately 150,000 rockets aimed toward various parts of Israel. Three months after returning home, the brutal Hamas attack of October 7th occurred. Those demonic psychopaths must have been planning it while we were there—such a scary thought.

Living under the threat of constant attack that can end anyone’s life at any moment is an absolute travesty. Such an evil threat would never be tolerated by the world at large for any other country, except Israel. Global Antisemitism is a rampant danger.

A More Frightening Danger

I’m becoming increasingly aware of an even worse, more frightening danger. In our country, we may not have the constant threat of rocket barrages. But an invisible evil seethes under the surface of society. At its core, it is demonic in nature. It operates in the invisible realm that few people are aware of or even care about. They simply go about their lives, influenced by a hateful hoard of demons, never realizing why they’re so angry, belligerent, vulnerable, deceived, and delusional.

Even well-meaning Christians operate under its influence. Instead of uniting against such demonic attacks, they fight each other over which candidate to support, who is right or wrong, or who is patriotic or a socialist. Each side feels justified in its preferred agenda as to how best to make our country great again. All the while, our spiritual enemy claps his grimy hands in glee and smirks as we unwittingly do his bidding. He is the father of all falsehood and a murderer from the beginning of time (John 8:44). Clearly, he hates the human race, especially genuine believers and the people of Israel. He seeks to steal kill, and destroy (John 10:10). His mission is clear and well described in God’s word.

It amazes me that we don’t recognize his slimy danger and unify in our attack against him. Nope, we continue getting angry, slinging insults, unfriending people, and acting like the devil himself. When in fact, we should be putting on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:11), standing against the evil one and his wicked ways (Ephesians 6:13), praying for God’s supernatural intervention (2 Chronicles 7:14), and living in the power of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:25).

God is Eternally Holy

By designation, the Holy Spirit is holy. With the Holy Spirit living within us, that should leave a holy distinction upon our lives. “If the root is holy, so are the branches” (Romans 11:16). There must be a holy fragrance in everything we do—including our social interaction and political leaning. To be clear, the Holy Spirit will never lead a person to support an agenda, a political candidate, or even a church “denomination” that runs contrary to God’s word.

You can excuse it, justify it, or put lipstick on whichever pig you choose. But that doesn’t change God’s position on it. God never contradicts Himself, His Word, or His character. He will never support killing innocent babies. Nor will He ever condone same-sex marriage or alternate lifestyles. That never was nor ever will be His purpose for mankind. He isn’t confused about His two genders or which bathroom each should use. God will never support lawlessness or “open borders.” He’s already stated His stance on all the borders of the world – He ordained them (Acts 17:26). We would do well to respect them lawfully. God will never support moral relativism. Nor will He ever support everyone doing what is right in their own eyes or following “their own truth.” Though God allows us the free will to choose to do all these things, that doesn’t mean He approves our choices or removes the consequences for them.

God is not Progressive

Contrary to popular belief, God is not progressive. Nor will He ever be (Malachi 3:6). He is unchangeable and as such, He is eternally holy, eternally, righteous, and eternally just. Yes, He is loving, gracious, merciful, and all the rest of His glorious divine attributes. But we must never presume on one attribute at the risk of another. We intensify spiritual danger by picking and choosing which part of God we want to champion. He is who He is—completely, eternally.

For those who claim to be His followers, the way is clear. As Joshua said, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve” (Exodus 24:15). To quote the prophet Elijah’s challenge, “How long will you falter between two opinions?” (1 Kings 18:21). If God is God, obey and serve Him. If this world and its demonic agenda are who you wish to follow, do that. But don’t confuse or try to combine them because there is no fellowship between God’s holiness and this world’s demonic agenda (1 John 1:5-6).

My fellow Christ-followers, our commission remains the same. Be salt and light in a lost and dying world (Matthew 5:13-16). Reach and teach others to become Christ-followers (Matthew 28:19-20). Equip (Ephesians 4:12), exhort (Hebrews 3:13), encourage (1 Thessalonians 5:11), and love each other (John 13:35). Put on the whole armor of God (Ephesians 6:11). Above all, stand steadfast and united against the enemy of our souls (1 Corinthians 15:58).

Our Divine Commander-in-Chief is returning soon! May He find us faithful to His name, His Word, His purpose, and His Kingdom!
