Are you fully persuaded that God has the power to do what He has promised? I often wonder if all the men and women in the Bible ever wavered in their faith? I know King David did. If we read the Psalms he pours out his sorrow and his hurting heart; yet, he always concludes what God has promised He will do. We can learn from him.
Are you reminded of God’s faithfulness when in a trial? Here’s a verse that we can receive encouragement from:
“Abraham did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being FULLY PERSUADED that God had power to do what He had promised.” Romans 4: 20-21
The promise that Abe was fully persuaded about was that God would give him his awaited son, Isaac. “Against all hope, Abraham IN hope believed.” Romans 4: 18
He believed on a supernatural level. When all hope, as a human possibility, failed, Abraham placed his hope IN God. His hope was IN the promise. Here’s how Abe believed:
“He believed the God who gives life to the dead and calls things that are not as though they were.” Romans 4: 17 I want faith like this!
Abraham and Sarah were far past the age of childbearing, yet God promised them a son. When Isaac was conceived, it was a miracle!
Years later, when Isaac was placed on the altar of sacrifice, Abraham, believed that God would provide another sacrifice. He believed in what God had promised. His hope was IN the promise, not in what he saw. He saw his son about to be slayed.
Yes, this was a foreshadow of Jesus, the Son of God, going to the cross. Abraham had faith to believe that God would do what He had promised. Jesus exhibited that kind of faith as well.
Focus on the promise, not the problem, and see your faith restored. Restored faith refuses to let go of God’s promise.
The Bible is filled with promises from God. Ask God to show you the one promise that will speak to you in your situation. When He shows you, latch onto it. Read it out loud and call things that are not, as though they were. This is why we should read our Bibles, God wants to encourage us and restore our faith.
“It is by faith we stand firm.” 2 Corinthians 1: 24
