One of my favorite scriptures is from Psalm 46:10, when He says, “ Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” As a nature photography, I am passionate about exploring quiet moments in nature and capturing the majesty of God’s artistry. The North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains is where I spend a lot of my time seeking the Father’s words of wisdom. I hear His message the loudest when I am completely still and immersed in the moment of His presence.

Although the scripture mentioned above was written over a 1000 years ago, it is still relevant today, perhaps even more so. We are experiencing firsthand a digital revolution. It is in our face! We are constantly in front of a computer, a mobile device or TV. Every day we respond to emails and texts or scroll on social media sites, and the list goes on. It’s so easy to allow our minds and hearts to be hijacked by the digital world we live in today. How do we tune into to God? Where do we go for solitude? For me, it’s nature. As a dedicated nature photographer, I find immense joy in honoring the beauty of our natural world, a gift from God, and immortalizing its transformative seasons through my lens. In this endeavor, the Blue Ridge Mountains stand as an unparalleled backdrop, offering a canvas where nature’s splendor unfolds in all its glory.

Behold the breathtaking vista captured in my image, taken from the revered Cowee Mountain Overlook. It encapsulates the very essence of tranquility. Stretching before you is a magnificent long-range vista of the Blue Ridge Mountains, awash in the vibrant hues of God’s artistry. This overlook, cherished by photographers and nature enthusiasts alike, holds a sacred allure, especially during the golden hour of sunset. Determined to capture the beauty of a sunset, I had meticulously planned my visit to this overlook.

However, as fate would have it, upon my arrival, a thick veil of fog and low-hanging clouds descended upon the landscape, obscuring visibility entirely, the sky seemed tumultuous, casting doubt on the possibility of a stunning sunset. As I observed, storm clouds swept over the valley shrouding the landscape in their embrace. Weariness threatened to overwhelm me, tempting me to abandon my aspirations. Yet, a fierce determination fueled my spirit, urging me to wait patiently. The Holy Spirit whispered to stay, to wait, and I am eternally grateful that I heeded that inner voice.

Just as the sun began its descent, a breathtaking revelation unfolded, revealing the true essence of His majesty across the landscape. A celestial symphony played out above as ethereal rays pierced through the dramatic clouds, allowing a cascade of sunlight to penetrate. In an instant, the once ominous clouds metamorphosed into a vibrant tapestry, painted by the rays of God’s divine light. It was a breathtaking transformation, etching itself in my memory as one of the most remarkable sunsets ever witnessed. The colors that danced before me were nothing short of a revelation, invoking awe and wonder.

In that fleeting moment, I stood humbled by the sheer magnificence of God’s creation. Overwhelmed with joy, tears welled in my eyes. It was more than just a stunning sight; it carried a profound message from above. In that moment, I understood that even amidst darkness, God’s light shines through. He is the source of solace during life’s storms, assuring us that they are fleeting, and beyond them, a magnificent sunset awaits, a reminder of beauty and hope.

It is moments like these, when we exhibit patience and embrace the rhythms of nature, that we are granted extraordinary gifts from our Heavenly Father. I like to refer to them as my, be still and know that I am God moments.
