B-Attitudes (The Beatitudes 9)

As a disciple of Jesus, suffering is inevitable.

Posted on

Have you ever had a season in your life when you were suffering for doing good?  The scripture talks about how we can overcome emotions when we are suffering for doing what is right.  Our next Beatitude is:

“Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 5: 10

As a disciple of Jesus, suffering is inevitable.  Our faith and our walk will be tested. There will be times we will be soaring high, then times when we are suffering unjustly.

Peter talks about that when he says, “Even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed.”  1 Peter 3: 14

Our persecution in this country doesn’t compare one bit to anything the men and women of God in the Bible suffered.  Persecution in other countries is real.  Visit The Voice Of The Martyrs website and see how those precious saints are persecuted for the gospel.

As a disciple of Jesus, we must resolve as Peter encouraged us to, saying, “It is better if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.”  1 Peter 3: 17

He continues, “For Christ died for sins, once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.  He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit, through whom also he went and preached to the spirits in prison…”  1 Peter 3: 18-19

We are made alive by the Spirit; that’s how we live!

These scriptures all fall under the subtitle of “Suffering For Doing Good.”  We are told to “Keep a clear conscious, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”  1 Peter 3: 16

Take note here: If you are being slandered and maliciously spoken against, it is your loving attitude that puts the opponent’s bitterness in a bad light. They will be ashamed of their behavior as Holy Spirit shows them the error of their ways.

“For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men.”  1 Peter 2: 15

Yes, being falsely accused is a form of persecution, one that will be here on earth and in our lives until we graduate to our heavenly home.

When they hurled their insults at Him, He did not retaliate; when He suffered, He made no threats.  Instead, He entrusted Himself to Him who judges justly.”  1 Peter 2:23
