Would you consider yourself a peacemaker? To help answer that question, we may want to recall how we react when situations arise in our life.
It’s very interesting that when I looked up the definition of a peacemaker, it said this: A person who brings about peace, especially by reconciling adversaries. Then it listed some synonyms, which are: Intercessor, go-between, intermediary, reconciler, and more.
Saying all of this leads us to the next Beatitude.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.” Matthew 5: 9
Being a peacemaker is much more than bringing peace. It is one who goes between two parties who are needing to be reconciled.
As a child of God, when we intercede, we are being pacemakers.
I never thought of praying for someone in this way would fall under the category of a peacemaker.
It makes sense, though, because half of the verse says, “...They will be called sons of God.” Jesus is our Intercessor, and we are the sons and daughters of God!
We are told, “Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.” James 3: 18 Peacemakers raise a harvest and a sure reward.
In our life’s journey, “Let us, therefore, make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” Romans 14: 19
We’ve been instructed even further by remembering the words of Jesus when He said, “…I tell you: “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5: 44
The titles “son of God” and “son of man” go much deeper than we can define.
Jesus identifies with God and man, and so do we as His followers. (Selah)
