The Decree Has Been Written

What we have done will be judged, even our motives.

What does a decree mean to you?  A decree is an edict, an oracle, or order written that affirms what is to come.  A decree is taking God’s words and speaking it out.  Maybe this is why some say it’s best to read God’s word out loud.

A decree is an official order issued by a legal authority. A decree is an order, a command, a proclamation.  Do you see the authority behind these definitions?  It’s more than just an ample word.

This is what the Lord decrees:  “The Lord says…”Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”  (Psalm 110: 1)

Sitting at His right hand is the place of honor beside a king.  With this position, he is made second in authority to God Himself.  The New Testament has many references to Jesus’s position in our lives.

  • A footstool for your feet is a phrase that ancient kings often had themselves portrayed as placing their feet on vanquished enemies.

A Complete Conquest

Putting enemies under our feet is an Old Testament figure for a complete conquest.  Paul said, “For He (Jesus) must reign until he has put all His enemies under His feet.”  (1 Corinthians 15: 25)  He even has put death, the last enemy, under his feet.

How many things are placed under his feet?  Everything!

God placed all things under His (Jesus) feet and appointed Him (Jesus) to be head over everything for the church, which is the body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way”  (Ephesians 1: 22)

  • He’s got our backs and our feet.

His promise: “The Lord will rule in the midst of your enemies.”  (Psalm 110: 2)

His Decrees Hold Fast

Not sure what hold fast really means?  It’s when we continue to believe in or adhere to what God has spoken.

  • Remain tightly secured to Him.
  • Remain tightly secured in His Word.
  • He is the Word, so we shouldn’t separate them.

If you need a sign, it’s ok!  The Lord spoke to Ahaz, “Ask the Lord, your God, for a sign whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.  (Isaiah 7: 10)

Isaiah then prophesied, “The Lord Himself will give you a sign:  The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call Him, Immanuel (God with us).”  (Isaiah 7: 14)

A Sign Was Given–His Name is Jesus

As a follower of Jesus, “We are signs and symbols…from the Lord Almighty who dwells on Mount Zion.”  (Isaiah 8: 18)

  • We are a testimony of what the Lord has done in our life.

His Decrees Bring Victory

As we move back to the Revelation, John is seeing, “A nameless angel comes down to bind Satan with a great chain.”  He threw him into the Abyss (the bottomless pit) and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the one thousand years were ended.”  (Revelation 20: 3)

  • Deception is the enemy’s strategy.
  • God’s Word–His truth–is the greatest weapon against Satan.
  • Walking in deception is simply believing a lie.

This one thousand years, called the Millennium, is important because it will demonstrate Jesus’ victory and worthiness to rule the nations.  (David Guzik)

The first resurrection is a resurrection life of those whose life ended, died in Christ.  Those who had died and were followers in Jesus.

Here are some things to notice about this resurrection.

  • This is a resurrection of blessing.
  • This is a resurrection of power.
  • This is a resurrection of privilege.

What follows with the White Throne judgment?  John looked and saw, “A great white throne and Him who was seated on it.  Earth and sky fled from His presence and there was no place for them.”  (Revelation 20: 11)

Most Theologians agree that believers in Christ will not see this White Throne judgment.  Why?  Because our sins were already judged IN Jesus at the cross.  We will stand at another throne, the Judgement Seat of Christ. We are told,  “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.   That each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whatever good or bad.”  (2 Corinthians 5: 10)

  • What we have done will be judged, even our motives.

The Books Are Opened

And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened, which is the Book of Life.  The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.” (Revelation 20: 12)

There are other books, other than the Book of Life, apparently.

“If anyone’s name was not found written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”  (Revelation 20: 15)

If you are a follower/believer of Jesus, your name is in the Book.

Christians have fought over when we will be raptured, who’s in and who stays?  How we will be judged?   There are many opinions, but one thing remains:

As a believer, for those who are IN Christ, we are saved by the Lord, and we don’t need to worry when the end comes.

As I finished typing that, I heard this:

“We need not be so afraid; He’s given us power over every barricade.

If you’ve given your life to Him, you’re seated on His right;  His power and authority come from His might.

You’re protected, safe and sealed; His blood has been released declaring we are healed.

Our life on earth is not forever; so release these gifts and embark on your endeavor.

His love and life are released through you; bring them in, to start anew.

There’s a future ahead, for all that are dead, in Jesus, it’s heaven forever; no need to say never.

When He comes to judge the living and the dead, as His child you’ll see the life in the bread.

The Bread of Life has paid it all; your home with Him keeps you from the final fall.

I’ve promised you life and written my decree; your name is in the Book, can’t you see and agree?

Don’t let the deceiver tell you his lies; He can never succeed in what he tries.

Your feet are upon his ugly neck; that snake has been bound don’t give him power by becoming a wreck.

Jesus overcame all you will ever face; cling to Him and His glorious grace.

You’ll be kept safe, He’s promised and decreed; this is your future security He sealed, yes, indeed.

So as time progresses and things get worse; you’ve been protected and set free from the curse.

So live your life serving Him until His return; don’t be bound by fear, this you must discern.

My Word has secured your safe flight;  in your heavenly home, is where you’ll be illuminated and bright.

Your home will be such a glorious place; you’ll be reunited with those you love face to face.

Our time together will never end; on this, my child, you can always depend.
