When Time Management Isn’t Enough

Following God’s priorities, I found peace and confidence by focusing on what God wants.

Time management techniques will only work if your priorities are right.

I felt stressed, worn out, and never had enough time to do what I thought God wanted. I read time management books to figure out how to get more done in my day, but most frustrated me.

For example, one suggested I squeeze additional work into an hour by planning my tasks in two-minute increments. Another proposed I get up at 4 AM after four or five hours of sleep.

Really?

One morning I woke with the word “priorities” running through my head. I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote the list of priorities He revealed.

Here was the answer to a problem I had asked God to help me solve. My problem wasn’t time management. Instead, I tried to do too many of the wrong things.

Following God’s priorities, I found peace and confidence by focusing on what God wants.

Time Enough

If our priorities do not align with what God wants, we’ll still feel stressed and unbalanced no matter how many time management tips we apply. When we concentrate on the wrong activities, we miss the essential parts of our lives. Often, the people we love the most push to the side.

When we ask God what He wants us to do, He’ll show us. Then, bit by bit, He tells us what we need to do, what can wait, and what we ought to drop or delegate.

Remember, God asks no more of us than He gives us the ability to accomplish with His help.

So, what does God want you and me to do?

Live by His Priorities

  1. GOD ─ Worship by yourself and with others. (Matthew 6;33)
  2. HEALTH ─ Take care of your physical body. (1 Corinthians 6:19)
  3. HUSBAND ─ Admire, accept, and adapt to him. (Proverbs 31:12)
  4. CHILDREN ─ Train and release them. (Proverbs 22:6)
  5. HOME/JOB ─ Make sure your family is cared for and maintain a place of peace and restoration. (1 Timothy 5:8, Proverbs 31:27)
  6. SELF ─ Develop friends, your gifts, talents, and abilities. (Matthew 19:19)
  7. OTHERS ─ Serve those around you as you glorify God. (1 Peter 4:10)

The bottom line:

There is enough time in my day and yours to accomplish everything God desires from us.

When we decide to do what God wants, we find peace and a life full of purpose.
