The Word is a light unto our path. We are told in Psalm 119: 105 Not only is the Bible, the Word, but one of the names of Jesus is the Word established way back at the beginning of time.
Before time began, Jesus was.
We are told, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1: 1
Did you notice that the book of John opens up with the same words as in the book of Genesis? The phrase is “in the beginning.” So, God is established as always being, always existing.
Since God and Jesus are one, Jesus was present way back in the beginning too–always existing, always being.
Let’s look down a little further in John 1: 14, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Plain and clear, “The Word is Jesus.”
If we look back in the Old Testament, Psalm 119 defines Jesus as the Word, the Light unto our path. Would it be appropriate to say that Jesus is the Word, He is the Light, and He is our pathway for life? I would answer yes!
To declare that Jesus is the Word, we are proclaiming that He is God.
Yes, we have learned that there is so much in His name, the name of Jesus.
As we close this series, it is my prayer that we have discovered the beauty and power in His name. I’ve introduced us to some of His names, but there are many, many more.
- Learn to call on the name of Jesus in all areas of life.
- Learn to release Jesus into all situations that seem impossible.
- Learn to recognize that He alone is not alone, but He and the Father are One, as we are one with Jesus.
The beauty and fullness of God are wrapped up in the three persons of God–the Trinity–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Such a mystery to behold!
As a young teenage girl, awakened by a dream, (before I even had read the Bible), I saw the Lord riding through the clouds on a horse and behind Him was an army dressed in white.
The dream impacted my life and put me on a path to pursue this rider, the One who is coming back for His children, His Bride, and His church.
All the questions that I had about the meaning of this dream, were answered when I discovered the Word of God, that revealed Himself as the Word, the Lord of Glory, the One who shall return.
Here was that defining moment in my life, as, years later, I read, “Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for He judges fairly and wages a righteous war. His eyes were like flames of fire, and on His head were many crowns. A name was written on Him that no one understood except himself. He wore a robe dipped in blood, and His title was the Word of God. The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed Him on white horses.” Revelation 19: 11-14
This rider revealed Himself to remind us that Jesus is returning to earth with an army from heaven. He is the keeper of all promises. What He says in His Word is truth. He is Faithful and True, keeps His promises, and keeps His word.
So, in conclusion, Jesus told us, just a few chapters later, “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the words of prophecy written in this book. Revelation 22: 7
Let the Word be your light, be your pathway in life, and pathway to life.
