How do we walk out this kingdom concept? On a daily basis, we deal with two kingdoms. One is a counterfeit kingdom controlled by a false prince who rules by deception. The other is the true and legitimate kingdom ruled by the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus. He rules with the power of light, knowledge, and truth.
We as the kings and queens positioned by God are to be exercising our domain on the earth.
We are called to do what Jesus did–destroy the works of the devil.
Before we let fear settle in, let me reassure you that we’ve been given victory over this already. The Word says, “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3: 8b)
The death and resurrection of Jesus did that. “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God. He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15: 55-57)
Kingdom-minded followers know that we are called to free others from being entrapped in darkness.
To begin in that direction is to present truth; for truth sets us free. Jesus told us, “If you hold on to my teaching, you are really my disciples.” (John 8: 31)
Taking ownership of something is holding on to it.
Knowledge of the truth is vitally important, for that’s where the enemy launched his original attack on humanity. Adam had knowledge of where his boundaries were in the garden. He was clearly told which trees to eat from and which tree not to eat from. Satan came to Adam and Eve and threw the seeds of doubt and distrust.
- Doubting what God said is the first attack on our mind that causes us to stray.
- The Word of God stands firm forever; that’s why we need to know it.
Satan tricked Eve to question, to think, if “God had really said that?” After they took the bait and the bite, everything changed. The bait was knowing good and evil. God only wanted them to know and be surrounded by His goodness. There is no evil or bad in paradise. God knows nothing else but good.
I propose to you, that’s why everything He created, God saw it and declared, “It was good.”
Go back to the book of Genesis and see God declaring good. It’s human nature to want to know something that we have off-limits to. In our curiosity…
- There are some things we are wanting to know about, but it’s best to keep our nose out of.
- Don’t fall into the trap of the enemy.
- Don’t take the bait and certainly don’t bite.
- We may get more to deal with than what we can chew on.
The enemy always distorts our understanding of the knowledge of God.
Knowledge of the truth of God’s Word is what transforms our minds. Jesus is the Word and the Truth. The enemy hates the Word of God. He has no weapon that will stand against it.
The first place to position ourselves in walking in the light is by walking out of the darkness.
We cannot have our feet planted in both places. We were positioned to walk into the light, not to keep walking in and out of it. We walk this out daily by the choices we make.
Accepting and following Jesus is turning from darkness to the light.
- We were created to be rulers OVER, not to be subjected and ruled BY something or someone.
- Walking in sin causes us to be ruled by something.
For example, those who struggle with addiction are being ruled BY that substance. They never wanted to be ruled by that thing; it pulls us in and holds us bound in that addiction.
- We need to hold on to Jesus and hold on to His teaching. This protects us.
If we don’t recognize the proper wisdom and knowledge that comes from God, then we won’t be free from the darkness.
Thank God He has given us the Holy Spirit to help us in our walk. Yielding to Him is simply holding on. Yet, we need to be wise with who we walk. “He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.” (Proverbs 13: 20)
KINGDOM PRINCIPLE: Until we are enlightened by the light of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, we will be a prisoner of darkness.
