As I prepared to write this post, a quick internet search provided the following explanation of the phrase “Say his name”
“The campaign around ‘Say Their Names’ comes from the African American Policy Forum, which raises awareness about police brutality. This is more than just a hashtag. Like rest in power, this is a way to honor the lives and legacies of those who lost their lives at the hand of police violence or brutality.”
I am not going to speak into this movement today but rather into a larger movement that was ushered in over 2,000 years ago.
Jesus, after His ascension, told His followers.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV
The question I am pondering today is are we saying His name enough?
Are we sharing stories of God’s goodness in our lives with both those who know Him and those who don’t?
Are we finding ways to point to Him or mention Him as we interact with strangers, coworkers, and friends in the course of our days?
Are we being diligent to form community with those outside His family and be an example of life lived in His ways?
No matter your answers to these questions, I am confident of this-
Holy Spirit is prompting you.
“Say His name.”
