Further Benefits Of Wisdom

Wisdom is worth more than all that money or gold can buy.

Here we are in Chapter 3 as we are learning about the further benefits of wisdom.  Today, we will focus on Proverbs 3: 1-18, only half of the chapter.  There’s just too much at once.  So here we go, read it out loud.

“My son, do not forget my teaching,

but keep my commands in your heart,

for they will prolong your life many years

and bring you prosperity.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;

bind them around your neck,

write them on the tablet of your heart.

Then you will win favor and a good name

in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart

and lean not on your own understanding;

in all your ways acknowledge Him,

and He will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes;

fear the Lord and shun evil.

This will bring health to your body and

nourishment to your bones.

Honor the Lord with your wealth,

with the firstfruits of all your crops;

then your barns will be filled to overflowing,

and your vats will brim over with new wine.

My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline

and do not resent His rebuke,

because the Lord disciplines those He loves,

as a father the son He delights in.

Blessed is the m an who finds wisdom,

the man who gains understanding,

for she is more profitable than silver

and yields better returns than gold.

She is more precious than rubies;

nothing you desire can compare with her.

Long life is in her right hand;

in her left hand are riches and honor.

Her ways are pleasant ways,

and all her paths are peace.

She is a tree of life to those who embrace her;

those who lay hold of her will be blessed.”  Proverbs 3: 1-18

Once again, there is a lot to unpack!   The highlights I saw were this:

  • Keeping God’s commands in our hearts will prolong life and bring prosperity.

When Solomon prayed for wisdom, God promised him riches as well as long life if he obeyed God.

  • Embracing love and faithfulness will be like a garland necklace around our hearts.
  • Being wise will win favor with God and man; and give you a good name.

One of our favorite verses, we often quote, is trusting in God with our whole heart and not leaning on our own understanding.

  • When we are ever mindful of God and serve Him with a willing and faithful heart, then He’ll make our paths straight and direct our steps.
  • Shun evil and don’t be wise in our own eyes.

An interesting fact is that this will bring health to our body and nourishment to our bones.

This makes me wonder how many illnesses may be brought on by not being wise, mindful, and a willing, loving heart before God.

  • When we honor God with the first fruits of our wealth our crops and barns will be filled and overflowing.  No need to be stingy.
  • If God disciplines us, it’s wise not to resent His correction but to understand Father knows best.

Finding wisdom will bring blessings to our lives.

Why would we not want that?

Tell this line to a financial adviser, “Wisdom is more profitable than silver and yields a better return than gold.”

Wisdom is worth more than all that money or gold can buy.  It’s even more precious than precious stones like rubies.

As we come to a close, wisdom brings long life, riches, and honor.  The way of wisdom is pleasant and peaceful.

Wisdom will be a source of life.  Lay hold and embrace her and you will be blessed.
