Each new year brings with it a feeling of excitement and anticipation. 2020, the start of a new decade, fills us with an even greater level of wonder as to what the future has in store.
As we fill in our new calendars and take pen to blank journals, our excitement is often a search for hope. Hope for long-awaited dreams to be fulfilled. Hope for better times ahead. God is not surprised by this. His word reminds us that His mercy is new and available every day. He is ready and able to fill us with the hope we search for whenever we ask Him.
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 ESV
Often we can be so anxious for a new beginning that we forget to remember the many blessings of the year gone by. Before you wrap up 2019 in your mental archives, I encourage you to journey back through it and notice all the many ways God’s hand was on your life—protecting, guiding, and providing.
As we peer into what 2020 holds for us, may we seek vision, focus, and clarity not only to discern our path ahead but also to see our Father in new and greater ways.
