You count and you matter! If your life looks like a scrambled mess and out of order, remember our God can bring order to chaos. “He sends out His orders throughout the world; his words run as swift messengers, bringing them to pass.” (Psalm 147: 15)
The Lord was giving orders to Moses to gather the tribe of Levi and assign them to the care of the tabernacle and the furnishings. Moses was further instructed to gather all the tribes and count everyone in the community. “At the Lord’s command through Moses, each was assigned his work and told what to carry.” (Numbers 4: 49) Leaders within each tribe were assigned to oversee the work of their tribe.
- The load that you carry in leadership, God will carry you through and send you help.
- Receiving work from God is a gift from Him which gives enduring worth. “Everything that God does will endure forever.” (Ecclesiastes 3: 14)
- Our worth is in Him, not in our work.
Solomon said, “There is nothing better for a man than to enjoy his work, because that is his lot.” (Ecclesiastes 3: 22)
- All labor and achievement are meaningless unless done with God’s blessing. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you receive your inheritance from the Lord as a reward.” (Colossians 3: 23)
- It’s possible to serve and work for that nasty boss, as unto the Lord. I’ve been there!
The tax collector came and visited Jesus one day asking for him to pay the temple tax. He was trying to claim an “exempt status” for Peter and the rest of the disciples, as part of His royal household. He said to Peter, “So that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours.” (Matthew 17: 26-27)
I love this! Ultimately, where does our provision come from? Whether it’s from an employer or from the mouth of a fish, God provides! I may start fishing!
- The word exempt means to free, to be free from.
- His life made us free from the penalty of sin and death. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6: 23)
That’s the best set of wages I’ve ever received! It’s all free. I never earned them, just received them, by repenting and receiving Him.
The amazing thing that He does is that “We are counted worthy.” (2 Thessalonians 1: 5) And “Our sins are not counted against us.” (2 Corinthians 5: 19)
Your life counts!
(Numbers 3-4, Ecclesiastes 3: 16-4: 16, Matthew 17, Modified)
