You Are Children Of The Promise

He takes all our brokenness and gives us hope.

Posted on

So how do children of the promise live?  Do we jump for joy when our God moves?  Do we live full of life, and full of Him?  We should!  Children of the promise live by faith; who are not enslaved to the law but to love, God’s law of love.

Paul was concerned about the Galatians.  He was speaking of the two women who bore Abraham’s sons.  “His son born by the slave woman (Hagar) was born in the ordinary way, but his son by the free woman (Sarah) was born as the result of a promise.”  (Galatians 4: 23 Emphasis added)

  • God’s promises for his children (us) shall be fulfilled.
  • Jesus is the promised child, now the soon coming King.

In the natural, what is a promise?  Webster’s Dictionary says, “A declaration or assurance that we will do a particular thing or that a particular thing will happen.”

We’ve all had promises given to us by people, and their promises were broken.

  • When God gives a promise, of a particular thing, He delivers.
  • He takes all our brokenness and gives us hope.

God is not a man that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should change His mind.  Does He speak and then not act?  Does He promise and not fulfill?  (Numbers 23: 19)

His Children Receive Hope

Jeremiah still lamenting over the destruction in Jerusalem, his city.  He remembers his own affliction and how his soul was downcast within.  In the sorrow, he established the “yet.”

  • Learn to establish a “yet” in your life.  It’s better than the “but.”

YET this I call to mind and therefore I have hope:  Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”  (Lamentations 3: 21-22)

God is good to the children of the promise; who hope in Him. Even if we suffer, “He does not willingly bring affliction or grief to the children of men.”  (Lamentations 3: 33)

  • Only can He turn our affliction into a blessing.

God’s Unrepentant Children Lose Their Luster

Jeremiah talks about God’s children losing their glow.  He says, “How the gold has lost its luster, the fine gold became dull.  The sacred gems are scattered at the head of every street.”  (Lamentations 4: 1)

  • The golden gems were God’s chosen people no longer shining for Him bringing forth HIs glory.

That’s why man has created.  To shine for Jesus and bring glory to Him, and Him alone.

  • For gold to shine brightly, it has to be polished.
  • Every test and trial God is using to polish us.

Our friend Job said, “But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.”  (Job 23: 10)

The Children Of The Promise Trust

What do they trust in?  Do they trust in their success or in men?  No way!  They declare, “I will praise the Lord all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.  Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.”  (Psalm 146: 2-3)
