When the Wind Blows

Although the Israelites could not see the wind as it blew across the waters, the evidence of its existence was seen and heard by all.

The Israelites were trapped. On all sides, danger loomed.

The Red Sea was before them, deep enough to drown them. The Egyptian warriors and chariots pressed on their heels, threatening to kill them, or bring them captive, back into desert enslavement to perform forced labor, in camps controlled by harsh overlords. The situation seemed impossible to escape.

Having no place to turn, Moses stretched his staff over the waters and called upon the Lord. God did something so profound, using invisible powers beyond the capacity of human ingenuity, and seemingly impossible from a human perspective, God made a way of escape.

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the Lord drove the sea back by a strong East wind all night and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided. ~Exodus 14:21 ESV

Although the Israelites could not see the wind as it blew across the waters, the evidence of its existence was seen and heard by all. God separated the waters and dried the sand before them. providing a highway of escape for His worried, weary, but waiting, children. Every Israelite walked over on dry land, and as the pursuing enemies charged, the Lord closed the sea, swallowing them in a watery grave.

When we find ourselves in a situation that seems impossible to escape, we need only ask Him for help. God can do profound things in our lives that go beyond our human capacity or ingenuity, and that seem impossible to do from our limited perspective.”

The miracle the Spirit of God performed in Moses’s day is a profound message about the miracles God can accomplish in our lives today. When we find ourselves in a situation that seems impossible to escape, we need only ask Him for help. God can do profound things in our lives that go beyond our human capacity or ingenuity, and that seems impossible to do from our limited perspective. As we give Him time and space to work, we might not see or comprehend how He is working at first. Still, just like the wind parted the Red Sea, evidence of the Spirit’s existence and work will eventually be seen and heard by all as God provides a highway of escape for you when you are worried, weary, and waiting. Trust Him. God is for you.

Friend, what impossible situation are you facing today? Is there a relational struggle going on? Are you facing a temptation that you’re having a hard time overcoming? Whatever the struggle, remember to ask God for help. Entrust the problem into His capable hands.

What “Red Sea” do you need God to part today?

Lord Jesus, breathe fresh wind on my situation and do a mighty work. Amen.
