Whatever We Do

When you work, work with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.

Each and every one of us is called to different things. That’s why we should not compare ourselves with each other.  God gave each of us different giftings.

Paul is giving the Colossians some good advice.  He says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”  (Colossians 3: 23)

Every task we do, every job we have, we are to work as working for the Lord.  Some have had or still do, have horrible bosses, who are tyrannical and just not nice people.

Do we work for them as we would be working for the Lord?  Yes, we honor those in authority, even if we can’t tolerate their behavior.

  • Retirement will come one day and you won’t have to endure those difficult days at work.  God sees your struggle.

The above scripture ends by stating, Since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward.  It is the Lord you are serving.”  (Colossians 3: 24)

  •  When you work, work with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
  • A good work ethic honors God first, before we honor man.

Paul’s conclusion is, “See to it that you complete the work you have received in the Lord.”  (Colossians 4: 17)

It is God Who Makes Beautiful

Ezekiel is giving the Word of the Lord comparing Egypt with Assyria.  Assyria was the greatest of great in its day, not even Egypt compared.

One commentary said, Ezekiel is using the figure of a great tree, a Cedar in Lebanon to show its greatness.  God here used the empire of Assyria to teach Egypt how He could establish a great power, and then bring it down in judgment. Assyria was, in the near past, a great empire.

He said, “Consider Assyria, once a cedar in Lebanon, with beautiful branches overshadowing the finest.  No tree in the garden of God could match its beauty.  I made it beautiful with abundant branches, the envy of all the trees of Eden, in the garden of God.  (Ezekiel 31: 3, 8-9)

  • God truly does make things beautiful, in His time.

The king of Egypt, Pharaoh, is about to be judged.  Ezekiel prophecies The sword of the king of Babylon will come against you.  I will cause your hordes to fall by the swords of mighty men–the most ruthless of all nations.”  (Ezekiel 32: 11-12)

  • It’s never good to fall into the hands of an angry God.
  • Justice is part of His character.
  • He raises up and brings down.

I found a scripture that speaks of judgment, but then also of salvation.  It’s tucked away, speaking of the nation of Israel saying, “In that day, the branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel.”  (Isaiah 4: 2)

  • The phrase “in that day,” denotes, after judgment comes salvation.

Our righteous God is the judge of the entire earth. He rules and reigns.

Whatever We Do, Do What Is Right

Isaiah shares, Maintain justice and do what is right for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed.”  (Isaiah 56: 1)

We are blessed if we operate in this.  “Blessed is the man who does this, the man who holds it fast, who keeps sabbath without desecrating it, and keeps his hand from doing any evil.”  (Isaiah 56: 2)

  • Whatever we do, do it all for the glory of God.
  • Choose “whatever” wisely.
