What Must Soon Take Place

How should we receive revelation?  By receiving it in our hearts.

As I was reading this morning, the phrase “What must soon take place,” jumped out at me.

Yes, there is a rebuilding that is taking place in many areas in our life, and all around us.  Keep climbing and look to the One who is calling you forward and upward.  Everything is not going to look completed yet, there’s much construction going on!  There is some stripping away going on, even down to the foundation, so when the rebuilding occurs, it will be all-new from deep down under and deep within.  Don’t stop, there are many steps to climb, step by step, we are making progress.

As we begin the book of Revelation, I asked, “Why did God give John this revelation?”  What’s the revelation?  “The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave to show his servants (all believers) what must soon take place.”  (Revelation 1: 1, emphasis added)

How did He bring this revelation forth?  “By sending His angel to his servant John, who testifies to everything he saw–that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.”  (Revelation 1: 1-2)

  • All revelations, visions, dreams should reflect what’s in the Word of God.

How should we receive revelation?  By receiving it in our hearts.  “Blessed is the one who reads the words of this prophecy and blessed are those who bear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.”  (Revelation 1: 3)

  • Take to heart what is written, it will bless us.

Take note that this book was written when Christians were entering a time of persecution.  Many were confessing that Christ, not Caesar, was Lord.

John is writing to the seven churches in Asia.  As he begins he greets them saying, “Look, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of Him.  So shall it be!  Amen!”  (Revelation 1: 7)

  • Jesus is returning to the earth as reigning King.

Who will see Him?  Everyone!

John then describes in detail what he saw, “The Son of Man, dressed in a robe reaching down to His feet, and with a golden sash around his chest.  His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire.  His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.”  (Revelation 1: 13-15)

John is instructed to then write what he sees.  What’s in his hands?  “In his right hand He holds seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp-edge sword.  HIs face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.”  (Revelation 1: 16)

Jesus explains, “The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this:  The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.”  (Revelation 1: 26)

  • Angels are assigned to our lives and to the churches.
  • God is holding His church in His hand.
  • His messengers shall proclaim His Word.

How Do We See?

The Psalmist proclaims, “Splendor and majesty are before Him; strength and glory are in His sanctuary.” (Psalm 96: 6)

He is calling forth, telling all peoples to “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name…” (Psalm 96: 8)

Let everything give praise to our God, “For He comes, He comes to judge the earth.  He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His truth.”  (Psalm 96: 13)

  • The time is now to come to Him, to call on Him, before He comes in judgment.

John saw the sword, the Word of God, in His mouth, His Truth.  (Shared from Psalm 96, Modified)

It’s Time To Return And Rebuild

Nehemiah responds to the situation in Jerusalem.  He hears that  “The wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates have been burned with fire.”  (Nehemiah 1: 3)

When he heard these things he sat down and wept for daysHe prayed,  “O Lord, God of Heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him, and obey His commands, let your ears be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and night for your servants, the people of Israel.  I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself and my Father’s house, have committed against you.” (Nehemiah 1: 5-6)

  • Recognition and repentance are the first signs of His rebuilding.
  •  Turning/Returning are the second signs of His rebuilding.

If you return to Me and obey My commands, then even your exiled people who are at the farthest horizon, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.”  (Nehemiah 1: 9)

  • No one is out of reach for our God to redeem.

Nehemiah goes before the king and the king recognizes that he is saddened and asks why?  He explains his sadness of heart is about the city and the gates that have been destroyed.  The king asks him, “What is it you want?” (Nehemiah 2: 3)

  • The king is asking what we want.
  • Petition the king.
  • The place we are called to is often where our passion lies.

Send me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that I can rebuild it.”  (Nehemiah 2: 5)

What is God asking us to build/rebuild?

  • It’s time to occupy.
  • The favor of God and man’s will be granted if it’s God’s building.

Because the gracious hand of my God was upon me, the king granted my requests.”  (Nehemiah 2: 8)

  • If you’re doing what God has called you to do, expect opposition.

“Sanbalid, and Tobiah, the Ammonite officials heard this, they were much disturbed that someone had come to promote the welfare of the Israelites.”  (Nehemiah 2: 10)

Nehemiah goes into Jerusalem and inspects the walls, and says, “Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem and we will no longer be in disgrace.”  (Nehemiah 2: 17)

  • When favor is granted, hearts will receive your requests.
  • Introspection usually proceeds inspection.

They replied, “Let us start rebuilding.  So they began the good work.”  (Nehemiah 2: 18)   (Shared from Nehemiah 1-2, Modified)
