What Is To Be Taught?

How about you?  Are you teachable?

Posted on

There is an old saying that “What is taught must be caught.”  There is some truth to that.  Our character is caught, as we love by example.

How about you?  Are you teachable?  Titus is being counseled by Paul when he says, “You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.  Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.”  (Titus 2: 1-2)

Now Paul speaks about the older women. He exhorts them to “Be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine (gotta watch the older women with their wine).  Teach what is good.”  (Titus 2: 3, Emphasis added)

The list continued as he went through each age group, each generation.  Yet, in all the teachings he says show integrity,  then if someone opposes you, they will not be able to say anything bad.  Their accusation will fall to the ground.

He instructs to make the teachings about God our Savior attractive.  He does not say compromise.  People are attracted to the gospel by the way believers exhibit faithfulness and obedience in their actions and character.  This is what an authentic witness does for Jesus.  When it is time to speak, teach in authority and in honesty and integrity.

  • The anointing from the Holy Spirit is the one who attracts.
  • He attracts, not attacks.
  • We must use our speech wisely.

Teach Restoration Is Always Available

Jeremiah speaks of falling away but gives the people another chance indicating, “If you repent, I will restore you that you may serve me.”  (Jeremiah 15: 19)

He reminds them, “My eyes are on all their ways; they are not hidden from me, nor is their sin concealed from my eyes.”  (Jeremiah 16: 17)

  • We can’t hide from God.

Jeremiah then says, “Therefore, I will teach them–This time I will teach them my power and might.  Then they will know that my name is the Lord.”  (Jeremiah 16: 21)

Is God saying, “Don’t make me come over there?”  This phrase is what we say to our young kids when they need a lesson learned?

It’s best to come to our God, first, before He does His teaching–teaching us a lesson.

  • In the days ahead, He will teach us by His power and might and many will know, come to know.

Joy Of Restoration Brings This

The Psalmist displays it so beautifully, “Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues were filled with songs of joy; the Lord has done great things for them.  The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy.”  (Psalm 126: 2-3)

  • Restoration shall bring joy, joy unspeakable full of glory.
