We are His

Unity is of utmost importance and priority.

Yes, we are His!  Let this title settle in for just a minute.  Do we believe that we are God’s?  As Christians, we are secure in Him.  We are not forgotten, forsaken, nor kicked to the ground.  We are loved, adored, cherished, embraced, and accepted.

Jesus is about to endure the most horrific kind of death known, crucifixion.  Before He completes what the father wants Him to complete, He completes His prayers for us, His disciples.

He said this, “I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.”  (John 17: 9)

Here’s what Jesus said, next, “Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name–the name you gave me–so they may be one as we are one.”  (John 17: 11)

The very prayer Jesus spoke to the father about was our unity, our oneness with Him, and with one another.

  • Guard the unity and oneness.

Yes, these were prayers for His close circle of friends, His disciples, but are we not disciples too?

What does Jesus pray next?  He prays for the full measure of joy!  “That they may have the full measure of joy within them.”  (John 17: 13)

Jesus continues, “Protect them from the evil one.”  (John 17: 15) Jesus knew the attacks we would endure, in this world, even though we are not of this world.

He asks for us to be “Sanctified by the truth; your word is truth.  As you have sent me in the world, I have sent them into the world.”  (John 17: 17-18)

  • A disciple’s call is to be sent.

Jesus Prays For All Believers

We all fall under that category as well.  Once again, the prayer, “That all of them may be one.” (John 17: 20) is decreed.

  • Unity is of utmost importance and priority.
  • The enemy has clearly separated and divided us.

Jesus doesn’t just want oneness with Him, He wants us unified with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  • The fullness of the trinity is the fullness of who God is.
  • This fullness is ours.
  • Cults have separated and distorted this mystery, don’t fall into their trap.

He Has Given Us His Glory

The same glory that the Father has given to Jesus, He has given to us.  (Selah)

  • This full glory is to be seen and made known.
  • This full glory of His love is for the world to see.
  • We are the ones’ to reveal and release Him.
  • Complete His unity, so the world will see.
  • When we are disunified, they see.
  • Disunity hinders what Jesus has prayed.  Ouch!

Continue to make us One, Lord.  May we see and know how much this means to you.

May The Whole Earth See Your Glory

God Has The Power To Help or Overthrow

Do we want His help or do we want Him to overthrow?

Amaziah is now king of Judah.  He is positioning his young men from war, but a man of God comes to him and says, “O King, these troops from Israel must not march with you, for the Lord is not with Israel, not with any of the people of Ephraim.”  (2 Chronicles 25: 7)

He continues, “Even if you go and fight courageously in battle, God will overthrow you before the enemy, for God has the power to help or to overthrow.”  (2 Chronicles 25: 8)

  • Obedience to the Lord’s will brings victory.

So, Amaziah dismissed the troops who had come to him and sent them home.

  • Sometimes we are to dismiss the plans that are ours and assemble the plans that are Gods.

The troops that had assembled were enraged they could not fight.  Amaziah then led his army to the Valley of Salt, where he killed ten thousand men of Seir.  The army of Judah also captured ten thousand men alive and threw them over a cliff.

He does a foolish thing here.  He bows down to the Edomite idols and offered sacrifices to them.  He sends a challenge to Jehoash, King of Israel, “Come meet me face to face.”  (2 Chronicles 25: 17)

Jehoash replies, “Why ask for trouble and cause your own downfall and that of Judah also.”  (2 Chronicles 25: 19)

Amaziah did not listen, so Jehoash attacked and captured all of the treasures in the palace, all that Obed-Edom took care of, all the gold and silver articles.  He then dies and is buried in the city of Judah.

The people of Israel did not fully understand they were God’s people, that they are His.  King after king, battle after battle, they were disloyal, disillusioned, and destructive.  They chose to worship other gods, never fully grasping who they were.

Yes, we are His people, His children.  We are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a chosen generation.  Know you are HIS!

You are mine and I am yours.”  (Song of Songs, 2: 16)
