But Abraham said to him, “Beware that you do not take my son back there.” Genesis 24:6
Instructions and warnings come all the time from many different places. People are instructed in how to accomplish a task. With those instructions often come some warnings on what not to do. There are many different reasons for warnings to be put into place, but the most common reason is to prevent trouble from occurring. Failing to follow instructions can often lead to disastrous results, sometimes injuries, but at a minimum is a failure to accomplish the task.
Abraham chose to send a servant to get a wife for his son Isaac from his homeland. He told the servant that he must not bring his son back to his homeland because God had promised them the land of Canaan.
Moving from one location to a completely new location is often difficult. It means one must leave behind friends and sometimes family. Everything is left behind to step into something new and different.
The move is often done in order to move forward in life to something new and better in the long run. People move to change to a better job or job position. Others move to be in a different location that meets their needs and desires.
Once a person moves forward, one should not go back. Everything in the past is past and changes without one there. It is no longer the same.
Believers have changed spiritual location when they left their past of sin and become a followers of Christ. Under no circumstances are they to go back to that land of sin. God’s word is filled with warnings to not go back to a life of sin. The result of sin is death. Forward is life in Christ that will last for eternity.
In any move you have made in your life you have had to leave something behind. Many things you have not been able to go back to even if you wanted to do so. The moment you chose to believe in Jesus you left behind you a life of sin and death. Now that you have moved forward in Christ it is important that you do not go back to that land of sin and death. Keep moving forward on the journey God has you into a new and abundant life. Heed the warnings of God.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will move forward on the path God has you on; that God will guide you in keeping off the path of sin; that you will not go back to the life of sin; and that God will bless your walk with Him.
