Jude 1:24, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, And to present you faultless Before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy.”
Did you know there is a test for diamonds called the underwater test? An imitation diamond is never as brilliant as a genuine stone, but even the most untrained eye can see the difference when the diamond is placed underwater. You see, when a genuine stone goes underwater, it sparkles and is distinctively visible. When you set an imitation underwater, it practically vanishes. Next to each other, there is a difference.
Have you ever come to the end of a day frazzled, irritable, and stressed? Maybe even halfway through the day, you can feel yourself slipping “under the water.” The shadows of the day grow long, and your tasks seem to grow bigger.
This is why we need a break. Even if it’s a small one, it’s good to take one in those afternoon hours when our patience is growing short. Afternoon is a good time to draw on the power of the Holy Spirit and gain a renewed surge of energy that we lost from the morning. Those hours in the middle of the day are when we need a little extra help.
If you find yourself feeling frazzled and drowning, wondering if you will ever get a break, be still and let God speak to you. He is saying, “I’m not asking you to live like this for the rest of your life. I’m just asking you to live like this today.”
Although your situation may be unchanged, when you let trust the Lord to help you through, you can find peace in the midst of drowning. Today is a fixed period that you could focus on. Today becomes doable. Today becomes much less frightening than “the rest of your life.” Coping with anything today is possible. Possible, that is, with God.
Jesus has taught us to pray, “Give us this day our daily bread.” God will meet our needs today. His grace is available for today. We are not to be anxious about the future, or even tomorrow, for every day has its own trouble- Matthew 6:34.
The future is in God’s hands. Tomorrow morning may bring joy and even a miracle-Psalm 30:5, for His mercies are new every morning, and nothing is impossible with God- Lamentations 3:22–23; Luke 1:37.
Jesus also promises that we will have the Holy Spirit to help give us that strength, and we can stay above the water even when we begin to go “underwater.” Like the diamonds in the water, the power of the Holy Spirit will sparkle inside of us, refreshing and renewing us so that we can shine to those around us. Jesus asks us to be a light to those around us. When we’re all frazzled by work and frustration, we let the light and strength of Go show others there can be peace in the middle of chaos. Your response can lead them toward Jesus.
Today, when you feel yourself drowning or you’ve come to the end of the day overwhelmed, give everything to Jesus and invite the Holy Spirit in, to shine you up again, so you can face the next challenge to come your way
