Turning the Eyes

Put your eyes on the things of God that will last for eternity and be revived in His perfect ways.

Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things, and revive me in Your way. Psalm 119:37

Hundreds of millions of things are available to be looked at each and every day by people all around the world. The internet is constantly being filled with more and more things to be viewed, whether pictures or articles to read. People can also see many different things everywhere one may walk. Many hours are spent every day looking at all of this stuff that can be seen. People thrive on being able to see more and more all the time.

The writer of this psalm asks God to turn his eyes away from looking at worthless things and to revive him in His way.

Although there are billions of things available to look at each day, there are very few things that are actually worth looking at. The news can be watched, but often it leaves a person worried or in fear. Very rarely does it bring joy and purpose. People watch movies on a regular basis, but most movies do not point a person toward Godly principles. And the list goes on as to what people can look at.

Believers see many of the same things that the world sees but need to stop looking at the worthless things of this world and put their eyes on things that have eternal value. Only the things of God will last and build a person up correctly. Often the things of this world take one’s eyes off of God and lead one into sin.

Instead of watching the sin of this world, believers need to see the work of God, souls that need the salvation message, and opportunities to build God’s kingdom–things of eternal value. This can only occur when a person is revived and changed into living in God’s way of living.

Every day you have opportunities to see many different things. Take an inventory of what you are seeing and determine if they have any real value or are worthless. The things of this world will pass away and have no lasting value. Put your eyes on the things of God that will last for eternity and be revived in His perfect ways. Do not allow sin and death to fill your eyes and heart, pulling you away from God and pushing you into hell and eternal death.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will put your eyes on the things of God; that God will reveal what you should not look at and what you should look at; and that you will be focused on building God’s kingdom with your whole life.
