What kind of things are on the horizon? I keep hearing this phrase, so I decided to investigate and ask the Lord to expound and expand my understanding.
There are scriptures that speak of the horizon. The first one I found was in Genesis 19: 23. Isn’t it just like the Lord to take me to the beginning?
It’s the story of Sodom and Gomorrah being destroyed. The angels urged Lot (Abraham’s nephew) to hurry and get out of the city with his wife and two daughters before the city was punished. The Lord was merciful to them and told them to flee to the mountains, but Lot asked the angels for favor to be allowed to run to a small town nearby. And he was granted favor.
“He was told to, “Hurry! Escape to it, for I can’t do nothing until you arrive there.” (Genesis 19: 22)
- Destruction of a city was delayed because of the intercession of one man.
Who was that man? Abraham! Remember he had prayed and asked God, “Shall not the judge of all the earth do right?” (Genesis 18: 25) God could not bring judgment on Sodom until the few righteous were rescued. Abraham had pleaded for the city in prayer, and for his relatives, Lot, his wife, and their children.
So Lot left the city, about to be destroyed, to the small town called Zoar which means small or insignificant.
- God cares about the small things in our lives.
- Prayer is never a small and insignificant thing.
What does all of this have to do with the horizon?
“Lot reached the village just as the sun was rising over the horizon.” (Genesis 19: 23)
Never forget, “The Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings for you people who fear my name.” (Malachi 4: 2)
- Over the horizon, the (Son) is rising to protect and lead us away from calamity.
Will we heed His leading? After Lot reached the village, “Then the Lord rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah.” (Genesis 19: 24)
There’s a new day rising on the horizon.
For, “He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a boundary between light and darkness.: (Job 26: 10)
Is it safe to say that whatever darkness comes into our life, He separates us from it, as followers of the Light, Jesus? I would say, emphatically, yes!
Just as God marked and set in place the horizon, so He did with our lives.
Kingdom-minded believes are marked and appointed by Him.
“I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning before the world began.” (Proverbs 8: 23, NIV)
I like another version better it reads, “Before time He established me before the earth saw its first sunrise.” (Proverbs 8: 23, The Voice)
The next time you’re sitting watching the sunrise or the sunset, remember your life, as a believer in God, was established on the horizon, just as the sun rises and sets each day.
KINGDOM PRINCIPLE: “The sun rises and sets, then hurries around to rise again.” (Ecclesiastes 1: 5) He’s called us to broaden our horizons!
Yes, He has risen indeed, He’s risen upon you and me. There are endless possibilities in Him.
