The Sword of God’s Truth

Some of the unrest and uncertainty in this world happens when the sword of God’s truth cuts through the cords of bondage that have held individuals, families, cities, and nations captive.

What we are seeing taking place in our world that is disrupting its systems is the drawn sword of God’s truth, His word. He is slicing through those things that are causing the bondage of sorrow and death and leaving people hopeless.

If you have limited God’s word to a devotional moment or simply a list of life principles, allow me to introduce to you another aspect of God’s word. The word of God is both Jesus and the text of Scripture we read that reveals Him from Genesis to Revelation. It is also a weapon.

“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable” (Hebrews 4: 12-13).

As the above verses reveal, the word of God is alive and powerful, an active weapon able to cut through the cords of bondage used to enslave people and nations. Some forms of bondage have been the too-easily accepted counterfeits regarding the truth of Jesus Christ and His Kingdom. The enslaved ones will not know they have been held captive until they are set free. The Lord is cutting through those cords to the dismay of the enemy whose well-articulated lies are being severed. This severing requires a level of sharpness only the word of God can provide.

Some of the unrest and uncertainty in this world happens when the sword of God’s truth cuts through the cords of bondage that have held individuals, families, cities, and nations captive. The sword cuts apart the status quo of imprisonment and tells the captives, “You are free!” These recently freed ones begin to upend the plans of hell, now wielding the same sword that set them free. As the word cuts into deeper levels of exposure, hell will always react. Even then, the word will destroy the effect of that reaction.

Exposure to the word will eventually bring all people and nations to a place of accountability. “He is the one to whom we are accountable” (vs. 13). When we pick up the sword of truth and wield its mighty power and authority, we will also be held accountable for how we employed that supernatural weapon. Be wise and careful in its use. The sword of truth must be wielded for redemptive purposes, not for human agendas. If not, our efforts will only add to the resulting havoc, not bring hope and freedom.
