The Self-Existence of God

The intelligent boasts that there’s nothing they do not know or that there is nothing they cannot learn, but the humble admit that there’re some things they can never know.

God is definitely not like any of us and most certainly not like any other thing or being. He has these divine characteristics that distinguish Him from the ‘non-Gods,’ and no one but Him can ever possess them. They are called Incommunicable Attributes — the Attributes of God that He does not share or communicate with anyone or anything else; they belong to Him alone. One of these attributes is the Aseity of God, which means that God is self-existent and self-sufficient. In this post, I’ll be sharing about the divine self-existence.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines “self-existence” the existence of oneself, independent or not caused by someone or something else.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1, KJV).

The first several verses of the Bible tell us an incredible story of how the heavens and the earth were created by Someone who is created by none. “In the beginning, God…” God was already there. He has always been there. He has always existed.

For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities —all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together” (Col. 1:16-17, NASB).

Some might argue with the idea that God doesn’t have an origin. For them, “It’s impossible! He must have originated from someone or something!” The intelligent boasts that there’s nothing they do not know or that there is nothing they cannot learn, but the humble admit that there’re some things they can never know, some things for which they may have no technique of discovering. They’re aware that as finite creatures, their understanding can be very limited to entertain the boundless magnificence of the Lord.

When God brought about the entire universe, He honored man by creating him in His own likeness. But as created beings, we are nothing apart from our Maker. Every single breath we’re taking is from Him, and every single moment of our existence is dependent on Him.

In the beginning the Word already existed, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Through Him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without Him” (John 1:1,3, GNT).

In my heart, there’s nothing but love and gratefulness for the self-existent Lord who cares so much about my existence. Though He is in need of none of His creations, by His will, He created me. He loves me unconditionally and cares for me undyingly. Truly, the Lord our God is so much worthy of all glory, honor, power, and praise! ❤️

Worthy are You, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created” (Rev. 4:11, ESV).
