The Resting Place of God

Wherever He stands, the place is sanctified as Holy.

Thinking about a resting place,  I remembered the scripture, “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.  Where is the house you will build for me?  Where will my resting place be?  Isaiah 66: 1   God always looks for a place to rest!

It has been said, “When God is in heaven, on His heavenly throne, His earthly throne is His footstool.”

In the Old Testament, the dwelling place of God was in the temple.  King David was instructed by God to build the temple, the house, and center of worship, for Israel.  David said, “I had it on my heart to build a house as a place of rest, for the ark of the covenant of the Lord, for the footstool of our God.”  1 Chronicles 28: 2

In fact, David declared this:  “Let us go to His dwelling place; let us worship at His footstool.  Arise, O Lord, come to your resting place you and the ark of your might.  Psalm 132: 7-8

Kingdom Assurance:  The phrase “let us go” is denoting that man is looking for God’s dwelling place too.  Man and God are seeking a resting place, a place to meet, a place to connect.  Worship does just that, connects us to God.  This place brings us closer to him, and a union takes place, spirit to Spirit.  We then become the resting place for God.  We have been told that we must “Worship in Spirit and in Truth.”

Where do you go to meet with God?  Where is your favorite place of rest, when you are needing restoration?

I go to the place of worship, to the place where I feel God’s resting presence.  It’s a place of solitude, a place of being alone and meeting with God.  When I go there, I remember the instructions from David saying, “Exalt the Lord our God and worship at His footstool; He is holy.”  Psalm 99: 5

Today, we also go to our houses of worship, to magnify the Lord.  Through the prophet Isaiah, God said, “Adorn the place of my sanctuary; and I will glorify the place of my feet.”  Isaiah 60: 13

Kingdom Assurance:  Wherever He stands, the place is sanctified as Holy.  If we stand with Him in that place, we benefit from it.  He then becomes “A lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path.”  Psalm 119: 105  The Word does that.  He does that, for He is the Word!
