Don’t underestimate the power of the seed! Let’s look at the parable of a growing seed. In the gospel of Mark, we see the power of the seed, not just the importance of proper soil in the planting process. He emphasizes the power of the seed.
Jesus said this, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.” (Mark 4: 26-27)
- The seed implanted has the power within it to grow.
- His job was to scatter the seed, nothing else, trusting the power in the seed to sprout and grow.
- When we scatter seeds, it is the seed inside that will produce.
“All by itself, the soil produces grain–first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head.” (Mark 4: 28)
- There is a supernatural power of the seed itself that grows and produces a full-grown stalk of wheat.
“As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.” (Mark 4: 29)
Kingdom-minded Jesus followers have the seed of the power of the gospel within.
We are not responsible for the entire growth process, that’s up to the Lord. We scatter, drop seeds, He waters and makes them grow. He chooses others, sometimes, to water during the growing process. That’s why we need discernment for everyone who comes into our life. People are often positioned before us, not randomly, but by the Lord. Even those folks that we don’t like, maybe, a work colleague God has strategically placed in our lives for us to influence or inspire, and we don’t even recognize it.
Consider the Mustard Seed
It’s the smallest of seeds planted in the ground but becomes the largest of all the garden plants.
- We never know what small seeds we are planting in another’s life.
- Learn to listen to the needs of others, and ask God if you are called to water that need, obey, then watch God grow the seed–grow them in spiritual things.
God’s seed (Word) is imperishable, indestructible, enduring permanently. It is not short-lived. It’s actually eternal.
That permanent (Word of God) seed is within us with the power to grow.
The seed is looking for somewhere to be planted and take root.
“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.” (1 Peter 1: 23)
There’s life in the seed! There’s life in the Word! Every seed God gave us produces life.
Oh, what a Savior! Oh what a miracle-working powerful God we serve. Oh, what a Creator!
KINGDOM PRINCIPLE: The Word of God within us is imperishable, living, and enduring.
