As I was worshipping The Lord, I kept repeating The name of Jesus, alternating between Jesus and Yeshua. Every time I declared His name, I could see shockwaves of light reverberating through the air. I saw demons wincing, covering their ears looking for a place to hide, while angels lifted their arms, with blissful expressions, welcoming those waves like a cool breeze on a hot summer day.
To the demons, The name of Jesus sounded worse than nails on a blackboard!
To them, it sounds like death, defeat, pain, condemnation, desperation, and hopelessness!
The sound of His name triggers their memory, and it brings them back to the day Jesus accomplished what He Was sent to accomplish, which was defeating sin and death on that cross. It reminds them that one day soon they will forever be cast into hell! To the angels and to us, His name sounds like life, victory, joy, salvation, forgiveness, and hope! It reminds us that we have won over sin and death and that one day we will be with our Savior forever and ever!
As I was reflecting on what I saw and on how much power is in The name of Jesus, The Lord said:
My name only has power when It Is spoken with the knowledge of what My name encapsulates. My name Has ALL the power of Heaven in it! The power to heal, cast out demons, raise the dead, move mountains, open the sea, to save, to provide whatever you need, to break the chains of depression, addiction, to set you free, to give you an abundant life! All of this and more is in my name! But only if you speak my name with the knowledge of who I Am and who you are in Me. No knowledge, no power!
Acts 19:13-16
A group of Jews was traveling from town to town casting out evil spirits. They tried to use the name of the Lord Jesus in their incantation, saying, “I command you in the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, to come out!” Seven sons of Sceva, a leading priest, were doing this. But one time when they tried it, the evil spirit replied, “I know Jesus, and I know Paul, but who are you?” Then the man with the evil spirit leaped on them, overpowered them, and attacked them with such violence that they fled from the house, naked and battered.
These men had heard about Jesus through Paul but had no true knowledge of who He really was, and what He Had accomplished by dying on the cross. They knew OF Him but they didn’t KNOW Him!
You see, the power behind The name of Jesus is not in t,he name, itself, but in The person of Jesus. Jesus came as The Son of God on the Earth to die so that we could be reconciled to The Father, be forgiven,, and, have eternal life. He came to give us back the authority, and power that the enemy had taken from us in the garden of Eden. He came as a man suffered as a man and rose from, the dead as The Son of The Living, God!
Having experiential knowledge of who He Is, is the key to effectively use the power that is in His name!
You don’t have to be a seasoned believer to have the revelation of who Christ Is, all you need to do Is completely and wholly open your heart to Him and believe that what He says it’s true. When you let The Holy Spirit come into your heart and transform you from the inside out, all the knowledge and authority you need to effectively use The name of Jesus is already inside of you. Demons will have to flee at the mention of His name!
Matthew 8:23-27
Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him. And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Lord, save us! We are perishing!” But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. So the men marveled, saying,
Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?
The disciples had not fully understood who Jesus was and all that He could do.
Everything and everyone is submitted to Jesus’s authority and once we fully grasp this truth, nothing can stop us from using His name and seeing miracles happen!
Luke 10:17-19 NKJV
Then the seventy returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
And He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Acts 3:6 NKJV
Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
When faced with a lame beggar, Peter offers something better than money: healing. He provides that healing through the name of Jesus. “Name” is from the Greek root word onoma. It’s not just an identifier. “Name” encompasses the essence of the person: in this case, Jesus’ character, sovereignty, authority, power, deity, and identity as God. Peter doesn’t use “Jesus Christ of Nazareth” as a magical spell. He has faith in the Person of Jesus. He has the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8; 2:1–4). He has authority from Jesus to heal if it is for Jesus’ purposes (John 16:23). So he has the confidence that Jesus will heal and honor his words (John 14:13–14).
“What I do have I give you”: He gave the lame man, power in the name of Jesus, but he could not give it unless he had it in his own life. Many people want to be able to say, “rise up and walk” without having received the power of Jesus to transform their own life.

Just as Yeshua/Joshua in the Old Testament led his people to victory over the Canaanites, Yeshua/Jesus in the New Testament led His people to victory over sin and their spiritual enemies.
The Lexham Survey of Theology eloquently captures this dual significance in the name Jesus: “He was, from one angle, ‘just another Joshua,’ and yet, in another sense, he was the true Joshua—the one who would live up to the meaning of this name in ways that no others could.”
