The Importance of Community

Jesus had community wherever He went—He lived, loved, and served those around Him every step of the way. We have one goal as believers and that is to make Jesus known—to live, to love, and to serve well.

Hebrews 10:24-25 (NIV) “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

One of my most favorite things in life is to hear people’s stories. I love connecting with people and hearing how they grew up, what lessons they have learned so far about life, and how Jesus has taken their old and made it new. I would actually love to meet up with whoever reads this and just sit and enjoy coffee and each other’s company; it would be a dream!

Living life with people brings community into action, and I think there is something just so special about community. I strive to make it happen wherever I am, not just because of my love for people but because I need it. I need to have people to talk to, to laugh with, to eat with (can I get an amen?), to go through hard times and good times with, and to grow with.

My husband and I grew up very differently, and he has some friends that I would probably have never met if we weren’t married. They are a little more rough around the edges, and I love that. I also love that some of them are not believers (wait just a minute before you start making judgment calls—I would love for everyone to come to know Jesus, and I will always be willing to share the Gospel with anyone. Just hear me out).

I love that some aren’t believers because it takes my mind out of the Christian bubble I sometimes get sucked into. I’m reminded by these friends that there are plenty of people out there who do not know Jesus and the great need for evangelism in this world. And these people are a part of our community, whether they are near or far. That’s one of the great things about living life together and this social media age—we can keep in contact with people from all over!

Living in community with everyone around you and not just your church friends can bring perspective to your purpose. Jesus had community wherever He went—He lived, loved, and served those around Him every step of the way. We have one goal as believers, and that is to make Jesus known—to live, to love, and to serve well.

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭20:28‬ ‭(NLT)

How are you going to embrace your community of believers and non-believers? It all just starts with a simple conversation, but that one conversation could change a life.
