The Attributes of God

An attribute of God is whatever God has in any way revealed as being true about Himself. He does not possess them as qualities; they are how God is.

“Worship is a lifestyle,” we often hear people say. When we say worship is a lifestyle, we mean we worship not just during Sunday services; we mean to worship God every day, wherever we are, and in whatever we’re doing. The purity of our worship depends on the depth of our thoughts and knowledge about God. What we think about God is actually the foundation of our worship. If the foundation is inadequate, the entire structure of our worship may sooner or later collapse.

I’ve been reading about “The Attributes of God” from different authors for a few months now (not continuously though). An attribute of God is whatever God has in any way revealed as being true about Himself. He does not possess them as qualities; they are how God is.

My heart is so full that I felt the need to share the few things I learned about this matter. Thus, I decided to commit myself in sharing with you something about every divine attribute that’s on my list. I have listed 41 and had them outlined. However, I must admit that I’m sure it’s not perfect nor complete because I believe that there are a lot more! If an attribute is something true about God, we may as well not care to try to enumerate them all.

  1. Aseity

Life will bring us plenty of trials, problems, and challenges, but those are just temporary. Our focus must be on our eternal burden which is our obligation to God — to love Him, to obey Him, and to worship Him. Having a vision of God so high and lifted up will help lessen the weight of life’s temporal burdens.

God is not like anything or anybody. He is beyond incomprehensible. I might not be able to give you the full and perfect definition, description, idea, or detail of each divine attribute, but I hope you also take time to read about them and meditate on them on your own.

To know God is not intellectual but spiritual. It takes faith, not intellect to gain knowledge about the Almighty. May we all find true happiness and enjoyment in God and in knowing Him more. 😊
