As we begin this new series on Strength For The Weary, it is my prayer that we will advance from weariness into soaring as an eagle into renewed strength.
I am feeling weariness, not only on myself but in the atmosphere. With that, as one who feels, I am initiating an exhortation to take us higher, above weariness, as we focus on the One who renews our strength. Let’s begin and go to God’s Word together.
Isaiah 40: 28, NIV “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom.”
So, what about us? How can we not grow tired and weary? We learn to change our focus.
Let’s park here for a bit, unpack this one verse, change our focus on being weary and meditate on who God is!
As we read the verse, the very first thing we get is a question to ponder. The question is: “Don’t you know, haven’t you heard? The Lord is the everlasting God.” It’s like He’s saying, “Can’t you get this?”
- Point #1 When we are in a season of weariness, focus on what you know about God.
- Point #2 God is everlasting, and anything we go through is not.
- Point #3 Everything is temporary, even weariness and problems.
- Point #4 God is eternal.
Let’s continue to document God’s character and attributes.
He’s Our Everlasting Father
Every Christmas, we get to be reminded of who Jesus is as we remember His promise. Even though it’s not Christmas, let’s go back and remember what WE (As Christ followers) have been given.
“For to US a child is born, to US a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders; and He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9: 6, NIV
An everlasting Father will be an enduring, compassionate Provider and Protector.
Let’s look at our Eternal God and what He provides, past, present and future. “The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out the enemy before you, saying, “Destroy him!” Deuteronomy 33: 27, NIV
Do we still need convincing of God being everlasting?
Remember, He existed before anything else! “Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” Psalm 90: 2, NIV
Yes, before He created anything, He existed.
Recognize and embrace His Lordship over everything.
He’s Our Creator
Look up and see the clouds, stars, sun, and moon. We are told to: “Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls them each by name. Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40: 26, NIV
Not only is He everlasting, but also so is His strength. We can always depend on and cling to Him.
AS WE CLOSE, WHAT CAN WE TAKE AWAY FROM THIS ONE LONG VERSE?
- Remember what we know about God.
- He is faithful and everlasting; He never dies.
- We can count on Him and cling to Him in times of weariness.
- He is compassionate, a Provider, and a Protector.
- His understanding has no limits.
That’s enough to meditate on until the next time. Keep grabbing hold of His strength as we embark on this series together. We all need to be pulled up and encouraged. Let’s lock arms and hold each other up as we rise higher.
