As we continue with Strength For The Weary, we established last time that our God is everlasting and that we can rely on and cling to Him in times of weariness. We have to learn to focus on His strength. In the learning process, here’s what He does for us:
“He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” Isaiah 40: 29, NIV
When God gives strength, He reminds us that the impossible is possible. Oftentimes, Jesus speaks by asking us questions.
The question He is asking me today is, “Is there anything too hard for the Lord?” Genesis 18: 14, NIV
The answer that I must respond is NO!
- Point #1 Instead of focusing on the issue, we have to lean on His provision, even if we don’t see it yet.
- Point #2 Recite this often: “Nothing, absolutely nothing, is too hard for the Lord!”
- Point #3 Proclaim His power over our lives.
Let this promise settle within: “Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the skies.” Psalm 68: 34, NIV
- Point #4 Praise Him for His power and strength to be yours.
This promise helps us to be reminded that “You are awesome, O God, in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to His people.” Psalm 68: 35, NIV
How does God want to strengthen us? By and through His written Word are His promises. We have to choose to read it!
Sometimes, the first place we go for encouragement is to other people. That’s not bad but going to God is better, so much better.
Have you ever thought that perhaps in those times of being weary, He may be drawing us to Himself? He may be wanting to show us who He is and what we have in a relationship with Him. He is our Daddy!
In times of needing to be strengthened, learn from this: “My soul is weary with sorrow, strengthen me according to your Word.” Psalm 119: 28, NIV
What Does God Do After We Seek Him Out?
“The Sovereign Lord has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught.” Isaiah 50: 4, NIV
In times of weariness, when we come to Him, He listens and speaks as our teacher. Don’t let weariness draw you away from Him; let weariness draw you closer to Him. He has more that He wants to show us.
AS WE CLOSE, WHAT CAN WE TAKE AWAY FROM THIS?
- Remember, His promises are given to strengthen us.
- Draw close to Him, for He is Daddy.
- Be teachable along the way so we can then pass along what we have learned.
His final promise to us is He will increase the power of the weak. How? He refreshes and brings joy in our times of sorrow.
“I will refresh the weary and bring joy to the sorrowing.” Jeremiah 31: 25, NLT
