Take a moment to ponder this quote,
Ask for great things, and little things shall be added to you: ask heavenly things, and earthly things shall be added to you.”
We can ask for heavenly things and watch the earth respond! This comes as a response to the verse in Matthew 6:33,
Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness, then everything else will be added to you.”
Our earthly provisions: food, clothing, shelter— they all have been provided for us as a promise from our Heavenly Father. If we would allow our faith to believe his promises fully, then we would not even need to “seek or pray” for these things— for they have been assured and promised to his people who seek him first.
If we will turn our seeking— our attention, and trust— to his kingdom and righteousness first (being what we seek after above all else), then earthly things are added! On top of that, peace from worry and anxiety is added to our lives, because we will have entrusted our provision and future to faith in the belief of God’s promises.
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
‘And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Matthew 6:26-34
As we shift our attention and our seeking toward heavenly things— the earthly things will align and the earthly provisions will manifest in our lives.
It is that simple.
Seeking eathly things brings a heavy burden, a laboring that usually comes up short, and a strength in “self” that wears us down. But seeking heavenly things (his kingdom and his righteousness) adds so many benefits to us and opens the way for the earthly things to be added.
Today, shift from the prayers of “worry” regarding earthly things to the seeking of heavenly (eternal) things, and watch what happens.
