Seed Sowing

You have the potential to sow many gospel seeds in your daily activities.

“And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.”

Matthew 13:23 (NASB)

This picture is the beginning of my walk in the nature reserve above my home. The path winds down and climbs up to the pine trees at the top of the picture. It was up near the pine trees that I spotted a pine cone, which isn’t unusual in itself. As I stopped for a wee breath, I looked at the cone in the middle of the path; I wondered how many seeds it held within it – a Google search told me it was about 150 seeds approximately.

I pondered this nugget of information and remembered birds such as the Crossbill and the Nuthatch that extract pine seeds from cones. If you think of a single pine cone spreading seeds through falling out or being eaten and spread by birds, it has the potential to plant a whole new forest. This is the natural pattern copied in the planting of Gospel seeds, as illustrated by Jesus in the parable of the seed sower. Christians are seed sowers for the Kingdom of God, sharing the seeds of the Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Dear reader, are you a faithful seed sower for your Lord and Saviour? If you apply the example of the pine cone, you have the potential to sow many gospel seeds in your daily activities. How many will you sow today?
