We are living in a battle of opinions. Many of the opinions we hear are offered by loose cannons. Much of what is being said today in the public square is like a loose cannon aboard a sailing vessel. If a cannon is not properly secured to the deck of the ship when it is fired, the recoil would send the heavy cannon across the deck, wreaking havoc on the ship’s structure and its sailors.
For each of us to not become yet another loose cannon in the current conflict of opinions, we need our opinions secured by Scripture, the heart of God, unbiased fact, and the extension of mercy. Without these securing lines in place, the opinions we prematurely fire off will not only miss their intended target, but also create damage and injury to the very things we are trying to protect.
The Lord wants to secure the weapons of our spiritual warfare. In a state of frustration, many have taken aim but forgot to properly secure their opinion with self-discipline. Shots are currently being fired at legitimate targets of deception, but they are not having their intended impact because the ones behind the shot have not properly secured their opinion with the wisdom required to make the shot count.
We don’t need any more loose cannons in the current battle. We need disciplined and researched opinions secured by Scripture, the heart of God, unbiased fact, and the extension of mercy that aim for the heart of a matter. Those properly aimed and secured shots will bring down the most secure fortress of hell no matter how impenetrable it might appear.
