We are blessed to follow great heroes of the faith! What a privilege to have such mentors as we mature in our Christian growth. We can identify with their personalities, character traits, insecurities, sin, failures, even their persecutions as they endured hardships and followed their God faithfully. By faith, they overthrew kingdoms, ruled with justice, and received what God had promised them. They shut the mouths of lions, squelched flames of fire, and escaped the sword of death. Their weakness was turned to strength when they became strong in battle and put armies to flight. These great witnesses have tried, tested, and found faithful, the same faith in a God that is ours. The author challenges us to be strong and endure as we run the race.
Is there something holding you back? Distracting you? Messing you up and taking your focus off the ultimate prize? Drop it and catch a glimpse of your God coming alongside you, holding you up, just as he did for those like David, Sampson, Gideon, and Samuel.
Stay in the race! Run faithfully! Run Strong!
Hebrews 12:1
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”
