There are many references to Jesus being our Rock, but here’s one that caught my attention. Paul was referring to the forefathers of their faith with one of them being Moses. He was recalling the account when God gave them food from heaven, (manna), and water from a rock when Moses wacked it. He’s reminding them of Israel’s history that they were all under a glory cloud and all passed through the sea. That sea opened wide and provided a pathway to the other side when the enemy was pursuing them. He says, “They all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock, that accompanied them; and that rock was Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10: 3-4
Rocks are solid, strong, and durable. They provide a solid structure and a place to stand upon. Jesus, as our Rock, is all of that and more!
I like how the scripture points out that the water they drank from was the spiritual rock, Jesus our living water. Manna and water represent the spiritual sustenance that God continually provides for His people.
I love the analogy this provides for us.
No one can live without food and water. Nor can anyone live without the Bread of Life and Living Water, which is Jesus.
Isaiah, in his proclamation, was calling the people to total trust in God and showing us where we should look in times of weariness, in our walk of faith, He speaks as the messenger of God and says, “Listen to me, all who hope for deliverance—all who seek the LORD! Consider the rock from which you were cut, the quarry from which you were mined.” Isaiah 51: 1
Since we have been cut from that solid rock and mined from such a rich source, Jesus Himself, then that would indicate that we carry His strength and His DNA.
